Question Mobil 1 or Redline????

I have used mineral oil in my engine for the last 5 years(since i have owned the car). I was wanting to change to a synthetic motor oil, but am undisicive on what company brand to purchase? Which has a better oil, mobil 1 or Redline? Or maybe even Royal purple? Need some advice from you guys.

Thanks

JIM

I think Mobil 1 is still the better of all to go with for all around use.

I've used both Royal Purple and Mobil 1, and found the Royal Purple to be noticeably smoother while driving. I now use only Royal Purple.

I've heard that amsoil is the best too. My friends dad uses it in his race engines and has dynoed 11hp over other synthetics. The 0W30 is suppose to be amazing. Amsoil says you don't have to change the oil for 35 000miles or 1 year. I don't know if I'd want to leave oil in my car for that long, but it kinda makes you wonder. The oil is very expensive though....

Where does one buy Amsoil? And does anyone have any experience with Redline, they seem to claim that there product will give about 10hp more over other sythetics, and they dynoed a 97 Trans Am and it came out with 9.3hp more at the rear wheels.

Dude thats even stupid to assume, if you're loosing 11HP to friction in your engine you have other issues, trust me there is no way unless his oil was really old & at that loss there would be damage made to the internals.

For what it's worth, GM uses Mobil 1 for the Corvette right off the assembly line.

Id go do a search on ls1.com for threads by " patman " . Dudes like an oil anylist expert or something , he runs all the brands for breakdown and stuff . . . from what I read royal purple and redline are the best and contain the most moly , mobile ones new formula is thinner and not so good for ls1 motors with piston slap type noises . I had a hell of a time finding royal purple or redline out this way so I have to pick it up from mopac when Im in there next , I am currently running castrol syntec 10 w 30 which rated very high but Ill dump it for rp in a couple months . Hope it helps

Stupid is talking out your ***. Have you ever tested different oils on the dyno? NO!!!! I've seen Car and Driver television dyno a LT1 Corvette with royal purple versus conventional oil, and it yielded a 9rwhp difference. The engine builder and racer I was talking about earlier is Rob Harisson from North Vancouver who has propelled his natually aspirated inline 6 Beretta to 8 sec 1/4 mile times. They've done many oil tests and he swears by amsoil.

Why don't you explain to us how different synthetic brands can increase hp numbers on the dyno?

Actually I was talking to Matt. But since he was talking out his *** i guess that somehow involved you too
All I'm saying is don't down things that others have tested until you've PROVEN otherwise.
