Man, finally I can't stand doing trannies!

Finally after about 4 hours of trying to put the tranny/flywheel etc... on, it took like 2 hours to get the tranny into the darn car, its heavy, & being 1 person it doesn't help so I got my dad to help me push the thing around while under the car. I think its in properly, I don't know, having to only of done automatic trannies this is my first M6, I put the flywheel on, new pilot bearing, disk/pressure plate & proceeded with the tranny, now I'm wondering, I guess if its all the way on then its on properly ? all I know is I can't turn the driveshaft in gear while in neutral it turns so thats a good sign then the fork was all weird, it looked funny, kept on wanting to nudge out, so hope it work, I have to ask someone that did the slave cylinder just on how it looked when they mated their on. well anyways I hope the thing is on properly, like I said I guess it either goes in or it doesn't. Also, having only 1 jack doesn't help either.

Bahh, anyways tranny seems to be in & connected with driveshaft & all wiring.

hehe, cool yesh, I made sure the slave was kinda just nudged in there, cuz it kept on wanting to come out just a bit when putting the slave on, but basicly I kept it in while putting the slave cylinder on, I'm just wondering if thats good & if it'll fall off or nudge out again or something ? Hope not.

BTW thanx on the congrats.

You changed a tranny on your own with one jack man you are fearless.

I know Cory does it but I do not know what he has to face.

ps: Anytime after 1.00 today I'm home.

Man I feel bad about not being able to help. Good to hear that you got it in.

give me a little more notice and I can help with these things. It's just that I am on my first "holiday" from work in 2 years and I didnt want to break my plans for the weekend.

Glad to hear its in Matt. If its all the way in, its all lined up in there. The only thng to watch is that there is no gaps between the bellhousing and engine. Ive seen guys get wires etc stuck in there and then the bellhousing breaks. As for the slave cylinder Im not sure what you mean. Doesnt it just bolt on with 2 bolts? This transmision has a slave cylinder on the outside right? not one of those ones that goes over the front bearing retainer. IF its on the outside you just need to make sure that the rod goes into the hole. I do not remember if there is a spring holding the rod in or not. And yes Shaun, mine is pretty stinking easy. I use a whole 5 tools and have to remove 12 easy bolts. Takes about an hour to re&re the tranny.
What does a T56 weigh anyhow? Id like to know how much weight I will save in my truck by going to one. The current tranny is 180lbs (and yes I benchpressed that pig in and out 3 times)

Good job

I remember when I was swapping a budies tranny in my driveway I almost squashed myself to death haha !! I was like " just drop her down om my chest and Ill wiggle out . . . yup lower . . lower . . . lower . . . OWWIEOWWIEOWWW !! HIGHER !!HIGHER!! HIGHER !! Those things are fawkinh heavy

For anybody that needs a new clutch etc done , Randy from work is awsome . Hes doing my spec III and flywheel probably this winter and just did a ws6 last month . They only charge 5 hours and on the hoist with the trany jack its guaranteed to be perfect , Randy is very very maticulous (sp )

Thats cool, I think I know a shop around here that will do it for around $250 but my car is in pieces & it wasn't just a clutch mod, its cam/lifter/rev kit/rear end/flywheel/tranny etc.... rockers bah too much crap.

As for weight I'm not sure but prolly around 200lbs, what helps is its alluminum but its still darn heavy, but whatever I'm strong

Id guess more like 130lbs max for a T56. My trucks tranny is all cast iron and has gears 1.25" thick and 1st gear is about 6" across. Lookslike it belongs in a tractor. It only weighs 180lbs. Theres no way a T56 is anywhere near that weight. Just found out the T56 is only rated for a 4000lb vehicle. Id better get the weight down.

Matt, you're a beast . Glad to hear of the progress!

FWIW, my old 4L60E (A4) was about 140lbs, so the T56 shouldn't be more than that...I'd guess 110lbs.

I think the M6 is heavier then the A4 considering its full of gears.

Hmmm I didn't know that...I always thought the auto tranny had more "moving parts" than its manual counterpart .
