Re: Local Shops that Flow Heads?

I find out now that there is a decent shop here locally. It was one that I had checked out earlier, but I tried to contact them and the operator said that the number was out of service. So I thought that they were out of business. Well it turns out that they have only moved to a new location and apparently better facilities. So now all I have to do is contact them and see if they can flow my heads soon.

Re: Local Shops that Flow Heads?

The shop is SD Performance, their website isSD Performance . The shop is now located in Chilliwack B.C. They currently use a computerized Superflow 600 flowbench equipped with velocity probes. From what I have been able to determine this bench seems to be the industry quality standard used by most shops for accurate flow readings. For more info on it go to How a Superflow bench works I believe that they charge approximately $100 usd to flow a full set of heads.

i go to the wack quite often, i can swing by and check out there shop if there open on weekends. but they seem to focus on mainly carb motors, i just dont trust shops that dont specialize in ltx and lsx's

Ya I see were your going Roy, But if all you’re doing is getting a set of heads flowed I can't see how they could really screw anything up. I mean they use computerized Superflow 600 flowbench which is pretty much the industry standard for quality air flow readings on heads. We’re not talking about getting a set of heads ported or anything, so I think that the point in moot. By the way the last time I talked to Dave at SD Performance, he said that he has ported and polished a number of LT1 heads. Now I haven’t talked to any of the guys that had their LT1 heads done by them. But Dave has worked on at least LT1 heads before.

Re: Local Shops that Flow Heads?

Well I just got back from talking to Dave at SD Performance. To flow a full set of heads will cost $150 cdn. I.e. (all intake valves & all exhaust valves) or you can get just one intake and one exhaust for $50 cdn. All flow testing is done on a Superflow 600 flowbench equipped with velocity probes. What this means is that Dave can determine were and if there is any turbulence in the cylinder heads and take steps to correct it. It’s not just blowing air through your head! lol Also Dave said that if you have a CNC’d head that you don’t really need to have all 16 valves flowed, just one intake and one exhaust will do. Because the tolerances between cylinders in a CNC’d application are the next best thing to the same. Dave has also ported several LT1 and LT4 heads with good results. He also has a set of stock LS1 heads that in the near future he will be playing around with. These are is own heads, he said he’d first get base line #’s from the OEM castings then work on them and see what #’s he could produce.

Do you know how busy they are? It would be interesting to flow my AFRs before they go on. A lot of guys have flowed these heads already, and they look good, but its always nice to get some direct feedback.

Re: Local Shops that Flow Heads?

I’m going to drop my Heads off tomorrow (February 14/05) and I hope to have them back by Wednesday or Thursday. When I talked to Dave he said it wouldn’t take more then a few of days. That is unless your in a rush then he said he might be able to do it in one day, so unless you need them like flowed tomorrow a couple days should be ok. This is just to flow them, if you’re having head work done on them it will take longer. (I.E. porting & polishing) You would have to talk to Dave to work out when they would be done if you were getting anything done other then just having them flowed.

Re: Local Shops that Flow Heads?

Thanks KK.

Would you mind posting a phone #?

And then when you get the heads back, let me know what you think of the service?

TIA.

Re: Local Shops that Flow Heads?

Well I just got my heads back from Dave at SD Performance.

The heads are CNC’d ported and have 2.00/1.56 Manley stainless steel valves, toped off it with Crane’s springs and retainers kit 10308-1 with dual coil springs. The heads also have guide plates installed.

Well here are the flow numbers on the heads.
Intake Exhaust
.100 61.90 43.30
.200 125.70 101.70
.300 183.20 145.50
.400 224.80 177.80
.500 250.90 202.90
.600 260.00 218.70
.700 260.00 224.50

So anyone want to buy a set of CNC ported LT1 heads??????

My experience with Dave was very good and I believe that for anyone who wants to get their heads flowed locally he is the only guy to see to get them done. Also from the little research that I have done he is the only one in all of BC to have a Superflow 600 flowbench.
