Local Dyno

I ws just wonderin if there is a dyno around here. I am goin on a cruise to Alaska on Aug. 3 but when i come back i would love to get a pull in. The next big question is how much? Also is it cheaper to get a few people together for a run? I may have a few interested people. Thanks.

Reznick's in Coquitlam is where we have gone lately. We will likely be organizing a group session in the end of summer/fall again. I think Harvey's rates are going up, but its like $125 for 3 runs or so. Tuning is about $200 and hour. Its a Dynojet unit, the most commonly quoted one.

Some of the other guys might have more accurate prices on what Harvey is charging now.

I may be grossly ignorant but.......

Why the hell is it so expensive to dyno a vehicle?
One hundred twenty five bucks for 3 runs?? How long does a run take?
Two hundred per hour for tuning??
What are these guys doing?

I realize that a dyno costs a whole wad to build........but c'mon, how are they going to attract people to use it for those prices? Wouldn't they get a lot more people to use it if it was cheaper?
I could mabye see doing some of that stuff if it was fifty dollars for 3 runs........

Reminds me of that Jack-in-the-Box commercial where the fellow is at a convention with a poster that says he will eat and give opinions on food products for 25 grand a piece.
He gets asked if he's had any takers and replies "Not yet, but I only need one!"
Bit of an exaggeration, but you get the idea.

Look up the price of buying/maintaining a dyno. Thats why its so much $$$. IT seems a bit much for what you get but what choice do you have? Besides, if it was cheap every dumbass in a FWD POS would clog up the place.

The cost to dyno here in Victoria is 87.50, and they don't have any competion. You would think it might be a little cheaper over there since there is more than 1 dyno and they would want to attract business.

The only reason it costs so much is because they have to clean up every time a RWD car gets on the dyno + blows up...

Or blows the dyno up, like that friggin' Mustang

*edit* Benny Boy, I'm going over to the Island in about 2 weeks, any chance I could set up a dyno session? Can you give me contact info please so I can look into it? I'd like baseline #s...

*edit again* Does Harvey do tuning on imports, or will he only touch RWD carb'd cars? I know he did that crazy 9-sec Integra, and I'd like to have an experienced tuner set my car up when I get Hondata. I don't want to go to some rice shop like G5, I don't trust those guys.. they seemed a little too shocked when I told them I did an engine swap in my garage. "Wow, that's amazing!"

We had a dyno day there about a month and a half ago. What a blast! They have a Mustang MD-250 dyno, and they have added longer ramps to accomodate cars with less ground clearance.

If we do a group session it will be $100 per guy for 3 runs

His regular rate is $75 for the first run and $25 for any additional runs
