Just got my first Z28!
Just got my first Z28!
hey everyone,
just wanted to say hello. last week i bought a 1979 camaro z28 and then found this message board. been working on cars for years, but mostly 4 cylinders and this is my first chevy. i live up in everett, washington and wondered if anyone else is from up this way? and if y'all ever get together for drives or anything.
i got a couple questions i'm going to post up in the technical sections, as there are a couple gremilins i'm trying to chase out of my new ride. so far its a blast to drive, and i will have pictures soon. hey again!

Good for you!
You must be really excited.
We all look forward to seeing some pics of the cause of your excitement.
Welcome to the board, you'll find many intelligent and helpfull people around here.
I'd say there are more Canadians in this corner of the board than Americans........but you're still likely to find someone close to where you live.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!
Yeah its all original now, but i plan on pulling the engine and replacing it with a new one. i was thinking of buying a shortblock 350 from autozone or something and a mechanic friend said they make kits for $1600 or so that have heads, cams, intake and carb i think that will put the engine up to 350-400hp or so. i think most folks put MSD ignitions on them too, though i haven't done much research on them. i saw over at www.classicchevy5speed.com that they have 5 speeds that will bolt right on, and was thinking that might be nice for highway cruising as the 3.73 rear end limits me alot on the highway. that way i can clean and restore the original engine and tranny and put them aside should i sell the car sometime down the road and it will still be original.
besides that, i am going to be looking for recommendations on what to replace the body's bushings with when i get to it. I hear that polyeurethanes are the way to go, but looking for feedback on that. anything else i am going to need to do putting the above engine in the car? would you do anything different? oh yeah, pictures going up later too.
one last question.. i am thinking of chaging the mufflers out tomorrow, and wondering what you guys recommend for a muffler? i want it to sound aggressive at idle and at speed, but no so loud that you cant talk to the person in the car with ya.

I like my Dynomax a lot but it doesn't seem to be commonly used.
Re: Just got my first Z28!
LT1 note and the SBC note are very different... Any straight thought design will give u that kind of sound, just how much money and muffler material type your looking for.

Here are the first couple pictures. So many places busy today, will be looking for a better place for some shots.
