Installing Headers

Hey everyone, now that I have my car back
from the body shop, I'm looking @ installing
my headers I bought a few months ago.
Anyone know of a shop that is good @ doing
header installs?. Any info & recomendations
will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers...

Well if you can get an extra volunteer or two, I do not mind installing them at my house if that helps. I have all the tools needed.

If you go to Shaun's for a header install I'll try to make it to help out. I'm looking at getting headers and will need some help on the install too.

Most header installs are pretty darn easy if you have the time. You really only need a second set of hands when you go to screw in the header bolts really. Though if its your first time, it might be nice to have someone for advice.

Thanx for the offer Drumhawk, it's always nice to
have extra sets of hands around rather than not
enough, Chris this will be my first install on an
LT1 motor, so it will be great to have guy's who
know how these go in . I was told that they can
be a b*tch to put in (we'll see).
Goldfires- It will depend on the style you go for,
my Edelbrocks were around $600 I think, then
I got them ceramic coated ($225).

Cheers...

I got my SLP headers from a dealer where my buddy used to work, through SLP. SLP gives a discount to dealers so he passed it on to me. I think mine were about $750 with taxes, duty, shipping, etc... If I could do it again I would have done emission legal long tubes with high flow cats and a catback. More of a custom job. I just wish I knew then what I know now.

Thanx Michael for the offer as well.
So we now have 4 people including myself (Shaun,
Steve.C, and Michael).
I guess we just need to figure out a date & time to do this. Shaun let us know when is good for you since it's your pad.
Then the rest of us can see if it works for everyone.

BTW: Has anyone done headers on these LT1's
before, please raise your hands.
Cheers...

Hey Shaun, I've already ordered a set from
Best Buy performance in Abby', they should
be in soon. I'm glad to see you have done
this install B 4. Do you know if we need to
move the steering links & A/C for headers?.

Cheers...

What size are the edlebrocks? Did you get the y-pipe with them? I have the same ones I think, only mine were chromed(I don't recommend that).

You wont have to remove anything except the alternator and the air assembly that goes into the headers themselves. And they are a bit of a pain to get in . You should be able to do it in under 6 hours if your're a beginner.

If I get a chance, I'll try to come over and help you out. Be prepared that I can gurantee with 90% accuracy that you will scratch the coating trying to install them. It's a tight squeeze. oh and you'll probably need new donut gaskets to connect to the ypipe, the ones that came with my headers were the wrong size. Almost any muffler shop will have them.

Thanx Sandeep, A few experienced peeps will
definately make the install go quicker.

My are the TES #6602 95'-97' dual cat 1-5/8"
header system. No mine didn't come with the
"Y" pipe and the came painted black which I got
ceramic coated & polished.
The instructions say that there is some cutting and
welding required at the stock bellows pipe & the supplied
short extension pipe, did yours have this as well?. I
was also told you need to loosen the motor mounts
& do them one side at a time, any thoughts on that?.
