HELP - electrical problem

Hi guys,

I had a short circuit and the battery was drained completely. No lights or anything.

I fixed the short, but when I try to jump start the car (booster car is running and reving), the accessories/lights don't turn on or are very very dim. Also, when I attach the negative lead to the alternator post (is this a good/bad spot to attach the negative lead on the dead car?), there is a very small spark and none of that clicking sound usually heard when a decent battery is reconnected.

When I turn the key it almost sounds like a sizzling sound is coming from the passenger side of the car.

Can a battery be drained so far that when jump starting, even accessories do not get power? I am pretty sure my connections and terminals are fine.

If my PCM was fried by the short, the accessories would still get power and the car should still at least crank over when jump started right?

Thanks guys.

dude I'm sure its something small, check the terminals for positive/negative right above the battery.

I checked all the fuses. all battery cables are connected properly.

When I hook jumper cables up the interior lights come on. When I turn the key to accessory, the lights dim and the accessories do not turn on... seems like there is a short circuit somewhere but I have no clue where.

I had a battery fail on me like that. I tried jumping it but the battery would drop to 5 volts anytime I put a load on it. I thought it was a bad ground or something, but when I put a new battery in it worked.

Have you tried cleaning the battery terminals, ground strap, and alternator post?

Dude you said nothing comes on before! Yeah if your interior lights come on with jumper cables but it won't start its most likely your battery or the connections to it, if the battery fails from being drained too rapidly, the plates inside warp from overheating (electronics school ) then when you hook up another jumper cable all its doing is putting a load on the other car because its leaking to ground & your car doesn' t have enough juice to start.
