Had a fun little highway race.......
My folks came back from winter vacation to discover I had been using their garage to store my Camaro.
I simply put a day permit on and removed it to my place.
Was on the highway and a Ford truck with white headlights was coming up fast behind me.
Nobody ahead of me, and it was a new F150 Harly Davidson Ed.
I allowed it to get close and then I shifted down to 4th and put my foot in it.
He didn't go away.......he slowly crept up until he was right beside me and then began to fall slowly behind.
We went to the top of fifth and a little ways into sixth and he wasn't really going away like I expected.
We slowed down to highway speed for an officer who had someone pulled over up ahead.........and then gave it again when we were safely past.
Once again.........I was verrry slooowwly creeping ahead......
That truck had *****!
Or possibly my car is slow.......
Was fun anyhow.

Re: Had a fun little highway race.......
Perhaps the reason you didn't take off on him was that you started the race in 4th gear. You would have to be going at least 155km/h to get a strong pull in 4th. And you say you went to the top of 5th... That means you should of been going 240-250km/h. With the mods you have your shift points should be as follows. 1st to 2nd shift: 70km/h, 2nd to 3rd shift: 115km/h, 3rd to 4th shift: 155km/h, and 4th to 5th shift: 200km/h.
These #'s are approx. for hitting around 5700rpm shift points just before the stock rev limit.

Re: Had a fun little highway race.......
Not bad fun by the sounds of it! I think starting in 03 or so they made those with the blown engine, which would make a help of a difference. I think one pulley larger than the Lightning. Could you tell if it had the supercharged badging? Of course, it wouldn't have hung with you otherwise, I'm sure, so it had to be the s/c version.
Re: Had a fun little highway race.......
It looked just like this one.
Jebus! Were we going that fast?!?!
I don't really watch my speedo at those high of speeds.......I glance at the tach, and mostly watch the road.

Re: Had a fun little highway race.......
great now hes gonna go tell his buddies he kept up to a camaro. should have slowed to 100kmh, brought your revs up to about 4500rpm then dropped into 2nd, you would have left him behind like last weeks news. ive taken lightnings out on the highway.
i dont think the HD f150s come with blowers, i think its the lightnings and the roush f150s. the only reason he kept up was because you dropped into 4th. or maybe he had naws, LOL

I know........but what can I say......I was stunned too.
All I can think of is - it must have been modded.
It was a young guy driving.
I soooo wished I could have blown him away.......I need a power adder now....

Weight makes much less of a difference when you're up to speed. Land speed cars don't really bother with weight reductions for this reason. Air resistance gets to be a bigger factor. I still don't see how a truck could've had better air resistance than the Camaro, but whatever
I'd also be curious to see how the gear ratios on the truck compare to the Camaro. Perhaps while you had to go to the tallest gear he could leave it in the 2nd tallest, etc. He'd get a nice torque advantage on you that way.
