graduating average....

ok, this has nothing to do with camaros or firebirds....

nonetheless, tomorrow i graduate from UBC with my BA in economics (UBC = #1 economics school in canada, #20 worldwide)... well, how do i calculate my graduating average???

is it my 300/400 level econ classes (my core classes), cuz if so GREAT, i have an awesome average, or is it all 300/400 (including just random math classes i took years ago, and have nothing but arts credit to do with my degree)???

or is it my last 60 credits, including 2nd yr classes i took???

i've looked everywhere, but alas, i'm finding nothing...

and before anyone asks, no, this doesn't mean i'm getting a V8... i'm staying in school, as i'm entering the CASB next year, and will be buying an apartment before a new car...

(and to any university students around.. good luck, getting a degree really isn't all that hard, just plug away, and it'll come... oh yeah, and learn how to 'use' the system ...)

Re: graduating average....

What average are you trying to calculate? They have like 3 different averages they calculate, depending if you're graduating with honours, etc.... i believe they just changed the system from top 50 upper year credits, to top 60 upper year credits. I know one of my friends just got screwed cuz he didnt have 60 upper year credits with marks (some were distance studies, which don't count towards your average)....

Re: graduating average....

The main point of a degree: GETTING A JOB. If that isn't why you went, you would have been better off going travelling for an "education."
During my last year of school my average dropped 10% because I concentrated my efforts in getting a decent job and as a result things are going really well in the career department...although VERY over worked.

Remember 2 things: an potential employer can't legally ask you what your GPA was in school OR your age.

mine is a regular bachelor's....

ah, who knows, who cares...

i have my degree, it was not a waste at all, as it has opened numerous doors.. plus, i've already had 1 really good job offer downtown, which i turned down...
being a CA will earn >$$$ very quickly...

degrees are only a waste, if you waste them... they're not for everyone, thats for sure, but if its not for you, most ppl know that before they start it..

Re: graduating average....

two ways I've seen it done.. The avg of all your classes you took.. or only the avg of the courses directly related to your major.

then, i think (and hope) that it is purely the upper level courses that relate to the major, ie. for me, 300 and 400 level economic courses...

if that is the case, i rule... anything else, and the average plummits like fbody resale values
