Anyone own a KB home?
Anyone own a KB home?
Graduation is right around the corner, and I'm starting to look into a "starter home" for myself and get outta the apartment. Just wondering if anyone has inputs on the KB homes? I've heard all the bad stuff about them in the past, but just wondering if their quality has gotten better since then. You can't beat their prices for square footage. Thanks for any inputs!!

Stay far away Ken, I know several friends who have KB homes and they are not happy. Alot of foundation issues and other cosmetic problems that have never been addressed. Just a couple of weeks ago I saw several groups outside KB homes selling points protesting their quality. Buyer beware...
You can't get far enough away. Start running NOW. As an architect I know a little about buildings and things going on in the construction business. I just don't see any reason to take the risk on a purchase this big. Yeah the price per sq. ft. is low but you get what you pay for. They don't have some magic potion for saving money when building a house. One of the problems (and I stress this is only one, there are many others) is that they offer contracts to subs for a large amount of homes. The sub sees all of the money he can make if he can get the 5 billion houses in his contract finished. But soon the sub realizes that its to damn much work for too little. Some subs chaulk it up to a loss and finish the job and never do buisness with them again. Other sub haul ***, cut corners, and do an all around sh!tty job to get the job done and make money. And thats on top of any other corner cutting that goes on by KB themselves. Its just not worth it. There are better options. Its a starter house. Get a smaller house for about the same money. If you buy used, find out who built it and have it inspected. There are other large volume trac home builders that do decent work. Please, do yourself a favor and stay away from KB. E-mail me if you need some help. I now some good realestate agents and builders.
Hehe...I figured this would end up this way. I agree that the quality is not up to par, and definately understand that there's a reason they're cheaper than the rest. I guess I just want to see what people have to say that actually own the homes. I'm not looking to stay in it very long....I want a roof over my head, a garage for the Formula, and a relatively small house payment...basically I hate renting!!!!!!!!!!
OK...if not any good words about KB, how about Centex and Continental? I've looked at them also, and they weren't too far behind the KB prices.
Thanks for the input guys!! Keep 'em coming!!!!!!
