Getting closer

Bought a new battery. Car turned over for the first time in 20 months but did not catch.

TERRIFIED to turn the car over now to avoid washing out rings.

Got to find the problem now. No spark I assume. I replaced the cap on the opti so its not that.

Why can I never just have things go right the first time

*sigh*

Re: Getting closer

maybe you should have invested or borrowed the carb intake and broken it in on the engine dyno. good luck though.

Re: Getting closer

First I recommend if you try starting her and she doesn't, pull the two injector fuses and try starting her, at the same time checking for spark, starting with no fuel will not do anything if you lubbed the walls.

Re: Getting closer

It takes three things to make a car run. Air, fuel and spark.

I had one of three LOL

Once the MSD was correctly plugged in and i actually put fuel in the tank it fired right up.

So Rashpaul will come by some time soon, maybe next wekend if the weather is bad, to get the initla start up under way on the new motor. I had it running for about 20 seconds and so far it sounds good.

Re: Getting closer

Gonna get insurance on Friday. Not ready to drive it quite yet but hopefully by Sunday I'll be on the road and moving.

I strongly suspect that the clutch will need to be re&re'ed though. Its a SOB to get in reverse and I'm sure that in spite of my best efforts that the shimming is not right.

Re: Getting closer

Reverse with my twin disk is a B!TCH as well, I just learned to live with it. Plus I know that none of my future girl friends will ever be able to drive it...part of my plan

Re: Getting closer

my street twin was actually stuck after it was sittin for a while .. I had to take it on the highway (rolling start it in gear) and floor it a bunch of times with the pedal in to get it to come undone ... and yeah reverse was a bit of a c*nt on mine too .. I just lived with it.

Re: Getting closer

Good stuff Shawn!! Hopefully this will be the last rebuild you have to do.

I'm getting just about ready too. I'm starting up my motor this weekend. Still waiting on the rear end situation but I'm hoping to at least join in on the cruises this summer. I really miss ripping around in a group of 20+ F-Bodies

Tell me about it. I think it's time to start putting my car back together as well. It would be nice to have it done, paint and all by the end of June Anyone know if its legal to drive around without a hood on the street?

Re: Getting closer

To my knowledge it is elligal to drive without a hood. Although I have seen some cars with out a hood but who knows if they got fined for it or not.

Re: Getting closer

*sign*

So Rash came over today to get the car running through start up.

Good news is that the car started and we got the break in under way.

Bad news, the cooling system is not running right. Firstly we had some wiring issues on the CSI (Not your fault Cory, the wire harness provided BY CSI was wrong).

But this rogue water weak reappeared. Its a long story - as always - but the water pump has to come off AGAIN. FOURTH time. It leaked HUGE, then it didn't and then it did again.

Also, (Cory) I have to relocate a water temp sensor for the FAST. Pain in the bum but manageable. So bottom line, another 3 - 4 hours work.

Was it spinning backwards? Have to switch the 2 wires around?

Getting erratic readings or is Rash just more comfortable with it located in the head?
