General Car Question

General Car Question
Just wondering if anyone was aware of how to resolve this:
In my neon when the car is in neutral it will only rev up to about 4,000rpm something restricts it, I am just not sure what and how it can be by-passed. It does the same thing when in drive and you try to hold up the rpm with the brake depressed, car is super slow through first and seems to bog everytime it is punched from a stop. It seems to me the issues are related.
It's a 2000 Neon - Automatic

Re: General Car Question
LOL, i was revving it past 4,000 to blow it up
Well no i was testing, the car is really slow out of the whole and it feels like the rpm is held back from revving past that up to a certian mph......i just want to take that out to make it quicker

Re: General Car Question
Yes, it is PCM protected, same thing happens to many newer econo cars I've encounter. The weirdest thing is, my friend took off the factory muffler off his RSX-S and install a fart can on, the PCM won't let him rev pass 5000 in neutral ever since lol. It must have a back pressure sensor or what not on those new hondas

Re: General Car Question
Sounds like it is a timing issue..
Seems like it isn't advancing the timing as the rpm or vacuumn increases. If it has a distributor take it off and make sure the timing advance mechanisms are not seized.
