Re: Gasoline-Wash/Oregon

Not much help on where to get 93/94 octane, but I will warn you that most american fuel is pretty nasty stuff. If it smells like diesel, dont put it in. I am not sure of all the differences but one is MMT (methyl maganese something or other) . Its a blending agent used in 93/94 octane in canada and the states have banned it. Cancerous or something . Anyhow, I was talking (listening.... sorta) to an oil engineer a while back, didnt get much of it but I think he said the MMT helps keep the fuel mixture correct instead of settling. After seeing many vehicles come back from the states with dead fuel pumps, running poorly, or etc etc, I would sooner rent a car to go south of the border if possible (unless taking the car over is the whole point).
Good Luck.

Re: 92 Octane...

Ken is correct! As long and you run one of those you are usually good to go.

Most of the people I see having problems are using cheap fuel's

There are two Armin/Armens on this board with Trans Ams. And some were skeptical of the apocolypse.

Re: Gasoline-Wash/Oregon

hes running a sts turbo, and it hasnt been dyno tuned, so 94 octane is highly recomended. so i suggest you buy some octane boost to take along with you.

Re: Gasoline-Wash/Oregon

yes but your car was prolly tuned for the 92 octane and 14 psi, jeepos car is running a stock tune, stock compression, and 5 psi. im sure the last thing hed want is detonation when he is far away from home.

Dont worry about an apocolypse, it wont happen till the eternal struggle is over, and from this Neverending it looks like it is still going strong

93formula I wouldnt argue with Ellis If I was you. That man knows his cars. As a matter of fact I talked to 4 or 5 guys at the track on friday that he helped program their newer cars & these are guys that race pros or semi pro at the dragstrips.

If it comes down to Trannies Ellis is the only person that would touch any of our cars
Hey Ellis how much does will it cost me if you d my tranny this next year (of course its going to be WHEN I get the money type thing). Also you know anyone that has a t56/ LT1 or a good L98 w vette 6 speed tranny for sale? (complete with wireharness)

Cory could you have put Disel in your car? it was either that or its from a very old tank. Gas is gas no matter where it comes from, couple things to watch for is how old the tanks are (the older they are the worse quallity gas you will get out of it) & what additives the company puts in. Currently I use Safeway gas in my 87 Iroc & it runs good (for the most part) the tanks are not even 3yrs old yet & its basically comes from the same trucks that fill up Texaco/ shell.

Re: Gasoline-Wash/Oregon

Despite his vast knowledge and experience, Ellis doesnt know about the state of tune on Armin's car, and Roy is right to be concerned about octane on an untuned FI car. Luckily with an LS1, compression of 10:1 and stock timing of approx 26* he should be safe on 92 octane at 5PSI.

Well I'm back. Went to Oregon. I used Shell 92 and of course I didn't really get into the Turbo, so it was pretty safe. First thing I did when I got back was to fill up with 94 at Chevron, at a cool price of 1.08 a litre(f*****g ripoff). For our U.S. friends thats like 2.80 a gallon.

Re: Gasoline-Wash/Oregon

I can assure you Cowgirl that I have never put diesel in a gasoline tank
Some american gas smells like diesel and some american diesel smells like 50/50 gas/diesel. I am a auto mechanic near the border so we run into american fuel often. We look after a courier fleet that does border runs as well and you can tell instantly whether its Cdn or Us fuel. It may be only cheap Us fuel that smells like that though. I do know that stinky Us fuel is really hard on small engines/carbs. Anytime I have brought one south its run like **** and usually requires cleaning and some fresh fuel to fix. Small carbs are bitch at the best of time though
