Edit problem - cable/pcm mistmatch??

I'm using Servio's LS1 Edit module and cable, and hooking it up for the first time this weekend.

It read my PCM ok. I did that twice. I edited the files as necessary, no prob. Then I went to Program the PCM (opened the file I wanted and started to connect), but immediately it came up with the dialog box stating "PCM or Cable mismatch. Either this pcm is not for an LS1 or the cable is not for an LS1." I tried twice.

Obviously it's the right cable as Mike has used it. And obviously my car is an LS1 and the PCM too. It hasn't gotten me to the stage where it asks me to register my PCM, so I am assuming there is an extra slot open (Mike was sure there was).

Any suggestions? Right now I'm frustrated. Grrrrrr!

I feel your pain Chris . . . . I had a similar problem with the efilivev6 upgrade. I bought efilivev5pro and upgraded online no prob but it kept asking me for my key ( which I entered 80 million times ) and I t wouldnt accept it or give me access to any of the bidirectional controls. Finally I got in touch with the guys at efilive and they sent me some new codes for the upgrade . . . . . what a pita.

Maybe give the edit guys a call and see whats up ?? Is there any way to tell for sure how many pcm's are unlocked ??

Yup, we only used Servio's cable on his brother's car... so there should be one on there.

Jason, it said there were two registered users on the module - did Mike hook up his truck too?

Twitch, thanks.

No, we never did hook it up to his truck. Mike doesn't have a laptop, so we were using mine, that's how I know it was only on Phil's car. I don't recall putting it on his truck, and I don't have any files other than the one for the TA on my laptop.

Damnthat sucks... I definitely never even attempted to program my car - I couldnt even get it to read (car battery was weak and it failed each time).

Well, I've been talking to Dave at Carputing a few times today and I must admit they are nice guys down there. Right now they don't have a clue what the problem is.

They looked at the ls1 file I was trying to load onto my pcm and see no concerns there (on first glance). They are going to look closer at it.

I do like the level of support they are offering when I'm having problems like this. Prompt and not avoiding anything. Thumbs up to that.

Maybe I should have warned them that I am cursed with computers. Even though I do it for a living, I can crash hardware and software faster than anybody... sometimes w/o trying.

I may have the problem, but I need carputing to confirm it. It looks like the cable is ONLY licensed for 97 and 98 LS1s, and 99 and 00 trucks. Not for any 99, 00, 01, or 02 LS1s. That would seem odd, considering Mike ordered it around 2002, I think.

Why would it be for the 99-00 trucks and not the 99-00 Fbody? The 99-00 Trucks have an LS1.

They list them as the 00LQ4 00LM7 and one other engine that I can't recall off hand. I'm stilll waiting from carputing to confirm that I am reading the info correctly though. I may be wrong.

I'm not sure about the other engine models, but the LQ4 is essentially the truck version of the LS1. The others must be too.

Found the answer.

It turns out the module is only programmed for 97-98 LS1 equipped cars and 99-00 LS1 (and its derivatives) trucks. Anything else is not included.

Man, that is a **** off. So we have to send it back to either have the module reprogrammed to change the unused VIN slot to one that will work with a 99-02 LS1, or to send it abck and get a 3rd VIN added on. The first option if $50 US and the second option $200 US. Plus waiting a couple of weeks.
