Re: does anyone pass aircare with cam+heads
I'd say the cam is the bigger factor in emmisions, not heads. Go with a milder cam that isn't that radical and with proper tuning and running a cat you should pass.
Others might want to chime in here.

the biggest determening factor is the cam/valve job on the heads, compression will affect your NOX levels but I think thats about it, you should be fine as long as you do not go over say 225/235 on 112 on an LT1, even that would be a bit hard to make pass if you're the average person.
I'm thinking of passing with a 242/250 on a 109 LSA and huge lift, if I pass, well I better get bowed to LOL.
PS. I'll never pass.

As said, compression will be the main issue for the heads, so if you stay near stock compression, you'll be easily ok there.
For the cam, again as matt ponted out, duration (and LSA) is the main thing to be wary of. In the LS1 world, a duration at 0.05 should not exceed 224 degrees - any more and you will really need to play with things to pass emissions. I'm sure its similar for LT1s. Stay at max a 224 duration and a 114 LSA to be safe (112 can pass, but I wouldn't find it easy - 111 LSA, forget it). You CAN do more, but it gets trickier.
Just make sure your cats (or cat) work well too.
I plan to pass with my heads and cam. AFR 205s with 66cc chamber for about 10.2 CR and a 224/224 581/581 114 cam.

BTW. My capri has heads, cam(mild grind), intake,non-factory carb, no egr, no air, no cats and I still passed

I wish I had to worry about that emmisions crap.
Would mean I would be putting down some serious power......not near stock joke power like now.

Every now and then I hear of someone saying they "know" someone who passed a 228 cam in Cali or somehting like that, but if I ever try to pin down a source, find out who the guy is, etc... the person never seems to exist. So I figure its someone either bs'ing, paying off the inspector, or someone who really knows what they're doing but won't reveal any so-called trade secrets.
Still, I'd love to try it. I just don't want to be first on my car. I'm just too busy as it is to take on the burden!
