Damn you ICBC!!!
Damn you ICBC!!!
So my car was a write off after it got jacked and torched. I suppose it MAY have been because of my $2300 sound system. The insurance company takes a good 2 and a half weeks to get back to me and give me an estimate. This car was a 1986 camaro Z28 with a rebuilt tranny not 2 weeks old, an edelbrock performer carb not two months old, chrome air intake with K&N filter, a cb radio, grant gt steering wheel, fog lights, chrome tailpipes, and the sound system which unfortunately is only covered for $1000 because I'm an idiot and never took out extra insurance (I was quite poor after sinking my money into the sound system).
The icbc guy offered me $4200 and explained to me that the STOCK stereo out of an 86 camaro is worth about $900 so I only get an extra $100 from that, my new tranny is covered for 50% of the original cost, and an edelbrock performer carb is pure maintenence cost and I get nothing for that. I did btw call the wreckers and they quoted me $100-$150 for the stock sound system.
Does anyone out there think this is a fair deal? What else can I argue about to boost the price and what should i aim to get?

Fight it and make them go by the average replacement costs . They will give you 6000 $ or **** off if its an 86 . The old mechanic at work got 7200 $ for his 88 not a year and a half ago and Camaro prices are higher now . They will always try to lowball u
EDIT : Dont bother fighting for aftermarket parts , its a big uphill battle . fight for the condition of the vehicle and cost of replacement for a equally nice model , trust me 6000 .

All in how you present it, they are suppose to low-ball you. I'd research how much they are selling for, check several out and bring that back ( pics, quotes, etc ) when you appeal. Then you are showing them realistically what it takes to replace your car PLUS all the parts and recent repair work value. Worked for me years ago
well if you look in the buy and sell 86 z28s go for 4500-4900. icbc usually goes by market value and they like to believe aftermarket parts devalue the car for some reason. it all depends on mileage and if you can prove with reciepts that you regularly maintained your car. id say they did lowball you a bit but i dont think theyll give you more then 5200 if your lucky. they like to go into the buy and sell and classifieds and base the price on that. if i were you id go and plant some fake adds.
Dude man I know 4th gen's that sell for $6k, $4200 sounds pretty good IMHO but whatever, I like the car just saying you shouldn't loose sleep over it, you're not getting ripped off if thats what you're thinking. Ohh & make sure they dont' find your crackpipe under your center console
muhaaaa.
muhaaaa.
I'm just not happy because I know i could never get a car like mine for even close to what they are offering, and that is supposed to be the whole point of the payout...to match the amount a person would need to buy the vehicle. That car was mint because it wasn't a daily driver for the past owner, it got used once or twice a week for over 10 years. Everything on the car was mint except the paint, not to mention all the thousands of dollars of work I put into it.
Dude man, my dad put in atleast 10k into his 86 station wagon that he uses durring the winter, its mint compared to any other, nothing wrong with it & limited edition, almost everything is new except the engine, but its forged crank/rods in that thing so it'll never go, 3.8 litre, ICBC offered him 1k when someone hit him, I talked to ICBC & talked them into giving us 1.5 k for the repairs, which is better then the 1k they wanted to give us plus the car, we have all the receipts, they don't care. Whatever though thats life, thats why you shouldn't put money into repairs, everytime something breaks you just MOD THE HELL OUT OF IT, that way the parts are considered MOD's & ICBC pays for it
