Who cares about beating a 79z. Nothin personal blue boy but if you had the cash i doubt you'd be driving a 79. Nothing wrong with a 79 except it isn't anything like a newer vette. Maybe you're modded out and can beat most vettes but I'd let you fly right on by while I get all the attention cruising around nice and slow. A new vette will corner about as fast as your top quarter mile speed. Try and corner like a vette and you are toast and if all you care about your time slip, well keep your car on the track and off the road.
Sorry if you think I'm flaming you blue 79. I'm not but after reading your ET on the quarter mile it's so slow I wouldn't even bother posting your time. Your 60' time of 2.65 is great, shouldn't you have a quicker ET than that?
I checked BC and Alberta and this was the cheapest one listed for 97 and newer.

I wouldnt buy a vette unless it was a z06.
BTW Drumhawk, for the price difference I would still buy my car and mod the hell out of it, still get all the looks and be able to rape a C5 in all around performance for the same price.

I voted for the Corvette.
I personally would love to have one - I don't think my back seats in the Camaro have ever been used. Yes you heard me right.
So a 2 seater wouldn't be a sacrifice. You're likely in the same position Payam - except since you're not married mabye you actually got some use out of the back seats for other reasons.
On classiccartrader.com there are 97' Vettes in the states going for 16G to 30G's. (American that is)
Mabye when the C6 comes out, a 97 Vette that has been garaged could be in order for me too.

I'll just chime in with I know a guy at school who just bought a 99 vette for 30g's. Went down to the states to buy it, and it is the most beat up c5 I have ever seen. He wont say a bad thing against it because he dosnt want to look like he got a bad deal, but after 2 months he already is trying to sell it. 80k MILES on the engine.
What it all comes down to is doin what makes YOU happy not what makes people on this board happy. I know your prolly just on the fence and want some convincin but a better thing to do would prolly be to just sit down one night and sort it all out. Maybe put it on paper. Maybe give yourself more options like an LS1. Everyone is gonna have an opinion and they are all gonna be different.
Now as for Drumhawk why is it that older cars have to handle like ****? Now I am not gonna be so naiive to assume that a 79 Camaro is going to be carving canyons with a new vette But lets face it you can pump money into any car and make things happen. A old camaro with new suspension will be more than adequate for any street driving around here. As for gettin looks. Well then I might just be so naiive to assume that I get as many looks in my $490 79 Camaro with 3000 in paint work, as you get in your 2002 Firehawk. And besides looks from other people it boils down to what you enjoy personally.
Thru the money I have put into my car and have saved up could I have bought a 4th gen instead? Sure. Did it ever cross my mind? Nope. Because how many 2nd gens do you see driving around that havnt been beat to ****? I like driving around in something a little more exclusive and rare. And any work thats been done to it, has been done by me which just makes me more proud to drive it. And the next car I buy, aint gonna be a stock c5 for 30 large. I'll take that 30, get a stingray, bright yellow with a big ol blower right in the middle of the hood, and we'll go cruising to see who gets more looks.

Well, the other option is to go to an LS1 car. maybe get in touch with Mike P see if he wants to sell his car?
Getting a WS6 is another option.
Tough spot to be in P. Not sure what I would advise. I think you should drive a C5 and see if it wows you. i remeber that I laid awake at night dreaming of a 300 hp twin turbo Dodge Stealth. Seriously, I dreamed ogf that car for YEARS.
Finally in late 1997 I decided to get a car and I found a white one at the Chrylser dealership on King George and took it for a test drive. I was massively disappointed. I kept on shopping and bought the TA in March '98

I voted for keeping the Camaro...mainly because when I get my C5, I want as few people as possible having one too.
Payam, I said it before and I'll say it again - your Z has been with you through thick and thin...its time for you to show your loyalty. Remember when you first experienced a blown LT1 Vert (ala SHaun)??? You wanted a blown vert. Then you experienced N2O, and you wanted that too. You change your mind too often and too prematurely...when you go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning, its the Z on your mind, NOT some random Vette.
Keep the Z...get it to the level you KNOW it can get too...and THEN expand your car collection.
Good luck with whatever you choose

and as for my 1/4 time look at my sig, then look at the time, do you honestly think that time is a real one? geez i put that there to see who will actually fall for it. and i CHOOSE to drive that car, i could buy something else but i dont want to, id rather have a rare nostalgia car, that has alot of history. besides theres only like 20 good ones in the lower mainland. thats rare enough for me.
and as for who cares about beating a 79Z? well maybe if you noticed that was directed at payam for a reason. thats cuz it was just a fun thing we had going to bug eachother. i keep telling him to step up his game to get me next year, and he says hes gonna mow me next year and vise versa.
i just find this one statement halarious: quoted by you "A new vette will corner about as fast as your top quarter mile speed." are you saying it will take a vette over 10 sec to get around a corner, wow I AM the one getting ripped off driving my camaro
I think he was saying it can corner at your trap speed
either way who cares , I agree for 30 g's your most likely going to get a pos . Keep the camaro and buy a vette when you can afford a real nice one .

Take some time and really think hard about what car you really want and mod that one. Don't waste anymore time and money on something that isn't you dream car(one that you can afford).
Take me for instance...I've got two cars or "projects" that I've been goofing around with and blowing money on that are both slow...and they aren't my ideal cars.I could have paid for a 69 ar 70 split bumper camaro with a blown LT1/t56 swap no problem. Oh well maybe in ten years
