Exclamation Anyone know much about day permits and such...

I already sent an email off to ICBC and im going in tomorrow to check personally on this...

The situation is... I am taking a day permit out on my friends car, he has a few tickets he can't afford to pay at this time... but i will be the only operator of the car and have the consent of the registered owner...

will i run into any problems?

I'd say so, ICBC doesn't sell insurance unless the owner is paid up on his dues. I'd bet the same applies on permits otherwise lots of people wouldn't pay what they owe and just run on the permits. Even with you buying the permit they will say the owner owes this or that. Give it a try but I wouldn't get my hopes up, sorry for the bad news.

You can't take insurance, in your name, out on a vehicle you don't own.

If he "sells" you the car, then you can go ahead and do whatever you like.

Could be a quick sale........mabye you both change your minds after a day or so........

tickets are not issued to the car the were gotten in. you should be able to insure as you as the primary driver even with him as the owner.

That's right. You can be the primary operator while the car is registered in the owner's name. You have to change the papers so it shows you as the primary operator and him as the owner through his insurance company. Then both of you can insure the car only he doesn't need you present to do so but you need him as he still is the owner.
