Oil Pan
Oil Pan
Hello all, this is my first post but I've been coming to this
Great site for many years. I'm going to try and keep my story as short
and objective as possible. I am the very proud owner of a 2001 z28
Camaro. two years ago I had to have the steering
rack replaced, the work was done at a Chevrolet dealer ship in Maine. Now
I live and work in Portland, and do alote of walking to work, which is why
the car only has 46.000 miles on it, mostly highway, back and forth to
NJ. Last weekend I took her on the highway just to burn out a little
carbon, about 25 miles. My friend and I smelled oil burning. I get home
and park her and the next morning after a rain I see a rainbow coming
from my car. I dont take it to the same dealer because to be truthful I
didnt feel they did a very good job on my rack,(slight click when turning
wheel, very intermittent) I bring it to another dealer and they tell me
that a bolt from another installation, (cant prove which) was broken and
left lodged in between my motor block and oil pan. Well I think you can
guess what happened next, Yep nice little hole. The service guy was like
there is no way to prove this, and after all I know its been two years but the other dealer was the only place beside the tire shop to work on
the car, no place else, and all the tire shop did was replace the tires,
and I dont have any mods.Well thanks for letting me vent and ramble; I have calls in to both ealers but I'm fully aware this will come from my pocket. Thanks again and sorry this was so long.
Update: Hi all, just got her back. $1106. Bolt is a rack mount bolt that was cut and left sitting on top of the rack right under the pan. Cant believe it lasted this long. Thinking about giving the bolt back to quirk. Sh_t happens right. Thanks
