Cool Newbie & First time camaro owner (w/ pics!)

First off, I'm brand new to this forum so I could use a little help getting started.

My name is AJ, I'm 19 and I live in upstate NY.
I Just purchased a 1986 Chevy IROC-Z28 Camaro automaticw/ t-tops from a private party and I'm very excited about it. Here's some info on it...

The previous owner purchased it as a project car for his son about 7-8 years ago. It's been completely gone through- rebuilt engine, body work, new exhaust and muffler, headers, new parts, interior, paint, new front bumper, etc. It's been very well maintained/restored and taken care of because the owner has been doing cars his whole life and owns his own shop that specializes in porches and high end vehicles so he knows what he is doing. Seemed very honest and trust worthy and definetley knew camaros front to back (he's owned 8). For a craigslist ad, it seemed like a great find especially with the owner's history with cars. He def wasn't trying to screw anyone.

His reason for selling it is because his son is away at college and needs the room for other cars and doesn't want to see it sitting around, and he doesn't have the room to store it anymore (too many toys).

It's been sitting in storage for 2 years but it fired right up immedietley and sounded awesome. We got a chance to test drive it and it handled like a dream.

The odometer reads 34,XXX but its most likely 134,XXX, but with all the work done to it, the car doesn't reflect the mileage one bit. It recently had a $3,500 viper pearl white paint job that looks incredible. (it was originally red). There's no rust or rot anywhere and underneath it looks new. The interior is a little rough but the car looks brand new from the outside.

The speedometer only goes up to 80 mph vs the late model 1986 IROC that went up to 140mph.

The car is complete and drivable as is and only needs a few small things. It needs a headliner for the interior to be complete, will probably need a new windshieldwiper motor, and the passenger side window needs a new part to be functional. All the parts for the AC are there to be hooked up.

I know but I'm going to end up asking hundreds of questions on here about my car but just for right now I want to know how I did..

He had it listed around $5,000 obo. I told him where I was at, and we eventually settled on a price of $3,500

How do you think I made out?? Good deal for an '86 IROC??

Welcome to the board. That seems a little expensive as I've seen lt1s go for that much but it depends on what's done to it. You said the engine was rebuilt but didn't specify if it is a stock rebuilt or performance build. Either way congrats on your purchase as long as you like it that's all that matters. Pics?

Re: Newbie & First time camaro owner

She needs a good wash and wax job but still looks pretty good. Kinda bummed the previous owner didn't put the IROC-Z decals back on it

Re: Newbie & First time camaro owner

The only changes that I would HAVE to make would be the wheels & hooking up the AC. If the miles are real, then it isn't a bad price, but yeah, I've seen LT1s go for around that much.
