Long time researcher but decided to finally join up. I have a 1996 A4 Z28 Convertible that has been in the family since new. It was passed down to me 2 or so years ago by my grandma and I've been slowly upgrading it since. Until recently that is. I have a Golen 383 LT1 long block, full Torqhead kit with HPTuners, Level 2 Performabuilt 4L50e, 245mm Pro Series billet stall converter from CircleD, a host of tubular parts from UMI, and lots of other goodies on order. All I have left for powertrain and suspension is brakes, tubular a-arms, and sway bars. I'm starting on the body as well. I bought a new 6le bumper and I'm on the hunt for a sweet hood. After that I'll get the few dents (grandpa wasn't the greatest driver in his later years) pulled and then I'm going to wrap it. Look forward to chatting with everyone and as always, I love all the information that can be found in places like this!

Sounds like you've made great progress already. We need experienced members who can pitch in and help, particularly with the LT1. Seems like LT1 owners are the only people that come here any more. We’re a disappearing breed.

While I'm no expert, I have decent experience with these cars (my car lol). I definitely have a lot to learn yet but I've been tinkering and upgrading since I've had it. I've replaced every part of each system required to run the car. Also a big audio nut so I built custom sub enclosures for it and put in a new head unit and coax all around. A few small performance mods - shocks, springs, strut tower brace, alum. driveshaft, air foil, TB coolant bypass, CAI, header back exhaust, and custom tuning by PCMforless (changing tuners after the new powertrain is in). It's been a lot of fun. I finally said F it and dropped big boy money on it so come the end of fall if not summer, it should hurt some feelings. I originally (and still do) wanted to buy a Vette, but I'll never be able to sell this car due to the sentimental value it has so I figured I'd make it go faster. I've always wanted a fast street toy that I can play with when the weather is nice.

And you are right. Unless it's the new LT1, the people who are knowledgeable with the gen II's, have largely moved on. Most people are on the 'LS swap it' ship and I refuse to board that vessel. I knew long ago when this time came, I was going to stay with an N/A LT1. Looking forward to learning more and helping where I can!

 

No problem with Corvette envy. I just received my 30th anniversary certificate as a Founding Member of the National Corvette Museum. But I've never owned a Corvette. Now I'm too old. lol
