Greetings from Igloo-land (Canada)...
Hey everyone
Just thought I'd drop in and introduce myself, as I'll likely be frequenting this forum a bit now for the next few years...
I just bought a '94 Z28 (350) 6 Speed Black T-Top to use as a daily driver.
I'll be honest in saying that I'm normally a "euro" guy, and I wasn't even considering anything other than something from Germany as a DD... until I had an epiphany and came to the following conclusion:
1) A Daily Driver needs to be RELIABLE
2) A Daily Driver needs to be FUN
3) A DD needs to be AFFORDABLE TO MAINTAIN
And the bottom line, folks, is that there is NOTHING in the Euro-world that matches all three of those criteria...
Euro cars that are FUN are not affordable to maintain.
Euro cars that are RELIABLE & AFFORDABLE are simply not "fun". Unless you consider a gutless BMW 318i 4 cylinder to be "fun", which I do not.
When it comes to German cars... there's no compromise. Either you buy something practical and boring, or something fun and expensive to maintain.
Which, to make a long story short, is why when I stumbled across an ad for the Camaro... I had a light-bulb moment and came to my senses. A big-block Camaro T-Top 6 Speed would be fun AND affordable to maintain!
And I've only driven it for a few days now (just bought it), but I feel that I'm correct in my assumption - especially when I look at the cost of parts, labour, etc.
I'm looking forward to having several years of fun in my new "redneck rockstar" cruiser
Cheers,
Chris
P.S. As a point of reference:
My previous "daily" was a 2002 BMW M3 Coupe 6M, which was awesome, but I sold it to buy a 2002 Porsche 911 Twin Turbo (with 610 HP, previous owner invested $30K)... and it's a hell of a car.
But it's a hell of a lot to maintain. I've only had the damn thing (the Porsche) for 2 months and I've already shelled out $10K on repairs (electrical issue with VarioCam, boost pressure issue, tires, etc). It's insane.
Fun, but insane.
This way I can drive the Camaro on weekdays and enjoy my barely-legal Turbo on the weekends

I also drive a 95 Z28 as my DD, it's a T-Top car with a 6-speed tranny. The car is awesome. In the year that I've owned it, I spent 400 bones to replace the waterpump, that's it! I'll tell you another great thing about it, that it is paid for!
