DRAGG | Oxnard Police Department | 1979 Z28
Hello everyone!
My Name is James Stanley and I work for D.R.A.G.G. Oxnard Police Department here in Oxnard, CA.
DRAGG | Drag Racing Against Gangs and Graffiti
A bit about our program:
Officers along with people from the automotive industry, help reach out to the youth of today. We are here to provide a viable alternative in the automotive industry and help guide and mentor them.
Our goal is to reach out to the youth through the after school program, field trips and special events. It's a new spin on an old idea, keep the youth focused on the future with trained and experienced individuals in the automotive industry and partnership with the Police Department.
We believe this is a unique outreach to young people who have an interest in the automotive industry and will provide an environment that is free of the influences of gangs and other negative behaviors.
We have built two successful show cars so far (all built by the students)
2006 Mustang GT Interceptor & 2013 Ford Focus ST Interceptor
Both cars were featured at SEMA this past year.
Our latest and current project is a 1979 Chevy Camaro Z28 with a 350 and Turbo 350 trans. The project is well under way and is in the re-assembly stage of its frame-off restoration. There are some great sponsors of the program that have donated greatly to the project, but there are many small odd's and ends that we need to secure. I'm hoping that this community will be able to help us source those hard to find parts, and help us with those peculiarities that every car has but is known best by their enthusiasts.
Well, that's DRAGG and our DRAGG Camaro. Hope to meet some of you in the future.

Re: DRAGG | Oxnard Police Department | 1979 Z28
We have made quite a bit of progress on the build I'll be shooting some photos tomorrow of how its turning out. We are now at a point though where we need some parts to continue the build. I'll be posting up in the classifieds section for the odds and ends that we need. Hopefully, someone might have some of the stuff laying around :-)

Re: DRAGG | Oxnard Police Department | 1979 Z28
We have another beautiful Z28 that was donated to us.
Here's the back story.
- Guy1 in Florida builds Beautiful Z28 show and race car
- Guy2 in California buys Z28 on e-bay from guy1 in Florida
- Ships the car to California
- Won't pass emissions due to extensive modifications
- Guy 2 removes engine and transmission from car and donates the rolling chassis to DRAGG
- DRAGG cannot register car in CA because of VIN issues and Emissions issues with 501-C3
- We must now hold onto the car for a total of 3 years before we can sell it, unless we can get close to $25K for it which is what the donation was written up for based on the original purchase price of the car being $40k.
- Car is now sitting outside in a side lot unprotected from the elements.
- We are now looking into getting an in-door storage unit to protect this beautiful car.
Here are some photos of the our 2nd Z28. From what we understand, it's an early 80's model with a late 70's front end swap.
We might end up taking this amazing interior and putting it into our Black Z28, but we haven't decided yet. What do you guys think?

Welcome to the site. That blue Z is pretty nice, a shame what happened to it.
My dad used to be involved with the San Diego County Sheriff's show/race Mustang. Like yours it was donated, they had local high school students build it up, parts donated, etc. They used it at car shows and at Qualcomm Stadium at their 1/8th drag strip on the weekends. He since retired and handed it off to someone else.
I've seen other agencies with their show & race cars, pretty fun. Good luck with your current build.
