Welcome to the board. The 305 can be swapped into a Camaro that shipped with a V6. The details are important. Please check the tech sections and post your questions there.

Re: 305 engine sawp?

The 305 engine would be a questionable choice for a "swap". You would want to use the LT1 V8 that was installed in the 93-97 F-Bodies. Not sure why this is in the "New Member Introduction" section.

You already asked about an LT1 swap in the V6 Tech forum, but no one responded. Swapping in a V8, either the 305 or the LT1 is not easy. In addition to a complete engine, computer and wiring harness, you need a complete K-member (engine cradle) from a V8 car, stiffer front springs, a tranny that is up to the V8 torque (your 4L60E is electronically shifted - put in a 305 with its ECM, and you will not have a way to control it), a one-piece driveshaft to replace your 2-piece DS. Most V6's have drum brakes, and an open differential, so you would want to swap in the rear axle assembly with one from a V8 chassis, giving you better disc brakes and a limited slip ("Posi") differential.

I'm going to go ahead and say don't put a 305 in your '94.

If you want to swap in a V8, an LT1 would be the reasonable way to go. As Fred said, it's still a lot of work.

Good -- that's honestly the easiest and least expensive way to get a properly running V8 car.

My personal advice -- keep saving, and get a '98+ car.

Great idea. I've never heard of someone want to swap in a 305.

Re: 305 engine sawp?

I bet that 305 is nearly as powerful as the V6.
