Thinking of converting my A4 to an M6...
Thinking of converting my A4 to an M6...
and was wondering if anyone here is looking to do the opposite and just trade drivetrains? Depending on the cost, I'd really like to do it. Or would I be better off buying the whole set up? ALso, with the 6 speed PCM, it shouldn't be too much of a problem tuning the car with hte 6 speed right? Any one who has done this, feel free to chime in.
Re: Thinking of converting my A4 to an M6...
I went the opposite way a few years back but I went to an older version automatic so I had no tuning issues. I don't know if you need to swap PCM's or not but you should be able to find a used one at a junkyard cheap if you need it. My spare PCM was only $50.00 from a local used parts place.
I still have the pedal setup for the six speed in my car. I don't need it. If you want to trade that is fine with me, however you will need to help me make the swap becasue I am not very mechanically inclined. I also have the cable and end piece to the six speed tied up with tie wraps under my hood and I don't need it so if you know how to remove it you can have it. I also have the old console, although the latch thing ir broken off but I assume that can be fixed.
In other words... I have a few of the parts, but I did trade the six speed gearbox for the labor to install my roll bar and I never could keep a clutch in the car which is why i switched in the first place. I went through seven different clutch installs in a year and a half. If you do it and plan on having more power than the stock clutch will hold I suggest getting the best clutch money can buy. I tried to save a buck and went with centerforce. maybe their products have improved since then but at the time I did mine it was an absolute nightmare.

Thanks for the response. I'm actually hoping to either do a complete swap of drivetrains with an M6 owner, but if that's not possible then I'll see what direction I want to go. I'll contact you when the time arrives.
