Engine knock with car in park, can't pull eng codes.
I also posted this in the regular message board.
I have a 94 T/A with the 5.7lt1 and cannot pull any codes using a jumper conected to a/b. The SES light lights up without the jumper, but if i install the jumper and turn the ignition on I don't get a code 12 and the rad fans come on instead. I'm having trouble with the engine pinging when you step on the gas with the car in park. It was worse before i changed out the dist, coil and ign module. If the car wasn't so fun to drive I probably would have junked it by now.
I'm trying to salvage a few rides with the car before summer is over.
Thanks in advance

Re: Engine knock with car in park, can't pull eng codes.
Let's start with the easy ones: Have you refueled since the time you changed all those parts, or is it the same tank of fuel? How's the condition of your exhaust? I used to have this problem when I had a rotted out Flowmaster on my car. HTH.

No mods and stock exhaust. I've let the tank go down and refueled with fresh 93 octane fuel. It's sounds like detonation and it gets worse once the engine is warmed. The engine also gets real bad above 4000RPM. I ordered a scan tool last knight so I can moniter engine while it starts messing up.

Check out the EGR valve, usually it would be a rough idle if it was bad but with it not functioning it will cause detonation due to combustion chamber temps getting to high.

No the car was nocking. Well after getting fustrated and getting no where decided to send to a local performance shop for repair. After they changed out the PCM ( at $450.00 ) the car was no closer to running . I decided I could replace parts and see if it worked cheaper than the repair shop. Ended up the dist cap was shorting out once the engine was warmed up. The cap was only 1 year old ( oredered a complete opticrap from Jason ), after this experience OEM is no better than aftermarket, just more expensive.
Glad to have the car running again and the wife off my back.
