I have a question. Why the hell are we still paying tolls on that goddamn road. It's been paid off for years now. Tolls were supposed to end when the road was paid for.

Go ahead, see if there's an answer for that one

It's more so we can pay for ridiculus studies on monorails running in the median, keeping bureaucrats employed and generally maintaining another tax (oops I meant "toll") for everyone to pay.

Don't forget the oldest of all Massachusetts traditions: "Patronage". When you get elected to office you get the priviledge of finding cushy, do nothing jobs for your relatives that have no other options. You don't think toll takers get over $20 an hour because the job requires any deep thinking, or a Phd.!! That turnpike is a great source of these jobs. I had an uncle that was a politician. He got my cousin (his grandaughter) a real good job on the pike basically delivering mail from place to place, for over $30K a year, and she got a govt. car to take home. She eventually screwed it up by going boozing in the car, and people called the turnpike authority one too many times saying the car was in a gin mill parking lot until closing time. They finally fired her, but trust me those jobs aren't going to people that walk in off the street. If they they take away the tolls where will allof these zeros end up working? It is like welfare for the politically connected.

In actuality, the starting pay for toll booth attendant is 10.72 per hour. But all the state benefits more then make up for the cheap pay.

$10/Hr!?? Is that full time? part time? I was told that these folks top out around $20 and hour. Do you know if that is what they make? I just believe they gotta get more than $10/ hour. There are many other jobs that also suckle from the MTA teet. I think if we ever saw the payroll for that turnpike we would have a siezure!! In addition the the gravy job my cousin had, I know that they don't give the troopers working the pike a take home cruiser, so they pay them a stipend for driving their own car to work, which amounts to pretty good money. My boss didn't go for that one. This state is driving me crazy with taxes, fees, and everything else. Where does the money go!?!?

I applied for the position and they told me 10.72 was the starting pay....BUT you have full dental, medical, vision, govt car if needed after a fixed amount of time, raises up your wazzoo, and so on and so forth. You should see the vacation package and how many days off you get as well
