Lawyers?

I went today to fight a ticket and I lost the 1st appeal. Looks like I might need a lawyer to fight this one. However, a google search brings up about 10000 people. Can any of you guys recommend a traffic lawyer that I could talk to?

Well after reading your post I would call your insurance company and see what would happen to you. I mean my friends got a drag racing ticket and they both paid 150 fines getting it reduced and all my friends got was a point on their insurance. If you are going to lose your license which i don't think you will then i would get a lawyer. Because i know a lawyer who got a lot of my friends off of a lot of traffic stuff up here. He is pricey but worth it. I mean if your not going to lose your license i would just pay the 100 bucks because i guarantee he will be a lot more than that. Well now i just thought about how much the points might cost you talk to your insurance and try to get a ball park figure on how much it will cost you in the long run and see if a lawyer is worth it.

I don't have a choice anymore. I accepted the appeal. The magastrate said that I had to decide right there to appeal $500, or accept the $100.....

As it said in my previous post, I would've been given a drag racing ticket, face loss of license, and a huge increase in insurance. I'm not worried about $400 for the fine, but everything that comes along with it, so I'm taking my shot.

I came here looking for some help finding legal advice, and you didn't offer me anything but criticism...thanks for the help

Well......I can kinda agree with 84z because if i did something like that then i would be excited that i got off with a 100 dollar ticket. I mean if they reduced the ticket then i don't think that you would lose your license or get alot of money tacked on your insurance....me and my friends just got a neg. driving ticket that was a criminal offense. One of my friends and I got off and the other two got a reduced ticket that cost them 100 bucks...they didn't lose their license it just cost them that money in court costs. I'm not saying what you did was stupid because i've done stuff like that before and i'm sure everyone else has....i'm just saying that once you got that reduced ticket i would have left it at that. You better hope that cop doesn't show up or else your screwed. Because i talked to my friend about that lawyer tonite....he will cost you a pretty penny about 1000 bucks for the day. He normally deals with DUI, and NEG. driving tickets and stuff like that but he will take any kind of case.

Why are you lecturing me like I got a DUI and killed a family of four in the process? Thanks for taking the high road though like you're better than me

I got a ticket for doing a half assed burnout, that's it. We drove by two cops going about 25 (in a 45) while doing so. The ticket is for drag speed racing, which is weird considering we weren't speeding.

Money isn't really an issue for me, and I'm not concerned about the $400 that I could get stuck with. I'm more concerned about the two+ points that could go on my insurance, raising it like $500 a year for five years (do the math...)

So I figured I'll risk $400 to try to save myself $2000 or so...but hey, you're better than me!

Hey i wasn't lecturing you on what you did...like i said i've done stupid stuff like that before. I was just describing the types of cases this guy does I mean he deals with criminal stuff like DUI and neg driving etc.....but he will take a civil ticket. Did they mention the burnout on the police report? I mean i don't know how they could get you for drag racing speed when you are going 25 in a 45. One of my friends got a ticket last july for rapid acceleration and he was only going about 20 in a 35 and he beat it. I don't think i would go as far as to get a lawyer because that admits guilt and i think they will give you a harder time. When me and three of my friends went for our criminal neg. driving ticket which was bogus because the cop said we were holding up traffic....we were on 128 which is a two lane highway with two of us in each lane and an off duty cop wanted to go 100 instead of 60 so we all got out of his way and then we got pulled over by 6 cops in glouchester. We had to get an arraignment and go in front of a judge. We just told the truth and we got off but two of my friends had to pay 100 bucks in court costs. The only reason we didn't bring a lawyer is because someone that works with my friend his wife is a court clerk and she said it isn't wise bringing a lawyer. If they let you off with the 100 before you are def. not going to lose your license at least i would think so because everyone that i know of that has lost their license it was a criminal offense and not a civil. And i always thought if they reduce the fine then the charge gets reduced too?

You shop for lawyers like you shop for doctors. grab a phone book and make a few calls, set up a couple of interviews and when you find someone you feel comfortable with work out a rate with them.

Sorry for the confusion, my responce wasn't aimed at you....

Why is it not wise to get a lawyer? Everyone in the lounge in these cases said to get one? I know they're expensive, but my friend and I would prolly split the costs.

I raised my concerns (loss of license, insurance, etc) to the magastrate about a drag racing citation, and she said my insurance would get a piece of paper saying I have a $100 fine for drag racing, and she thought my insurance would still go up the same, regardless of the original fine...I guess it's the name of the citation......

I think the whole point the original poster is trying to make is as follows, HE WASNT DRAG RACING. The law makers really need to control the police attitudes as far as this particular subject is involved. As far as most people are concerned one is NOT drag racing unless they exceed the speed limit.

A better charge for what the original poster did would probaly be a little closer to Failure to use care in starting stopping backing and turning on a STATE highway. Now @ the same time if he did this on a town road the only charge he can get is a NOISE violation.

I know this stuff because im friendly with a few of the cops in my town and i come straight out and ask
"What can happen if i do (insert illegal manuever here)??"

freakin holier than thou attitudes in the forums here are starting to **** me off.
