Post DYNO NUMBERS ON 383 procharged camaro

on friday i ran my camaro through a local dyno just to see what it did. its a bitter sweet story.

i did not tune it. (im going to have dean look at it.) i just want to get a base line and check my fuel curve to make sure it was safe. (eds wrights fuel curve was very good. it s almost a straight line across. it even ran richer at higher rpms, not bad out of the box.)

here is the breakdown,

with 6-7pds of boost and a very restrictive 1 5/8 street exhaust system along with a cat, pumped gas, an an air temp of 83 degrees it made 460 rwh and 463pds of torque consistanly within 1 to 2 horsepower over 4 runs. we let it cool down about 10 minutes between each run..

at first i was not to happy but then i realized that the motor really needs to breath better for a blower car and the boost was level was very low.

lets just say!!!!!!

today i ordered hooker long tube headers and im getting my friend to coat them for me. im also going to make a custom h pipe with no cats for it and im having ASP custom make me a 17pd blower pulley so i should see 14 pds of boost after the inner cooler and 383 take a few pds.. procharger stops making them at 15pds.(2.55)

im looking to break into the 600hp range for ned's next dyno day. im praying to pick up 140hp with 6-7 more pds of boost and a much freer exhaust.

even if i get close to those numbers i will be happy considering im using a small blower and a small cam. i know my bottom end can handle it easily.

thanks for listening dennis

im going to have to start looking for a new winter beater soon.!!!

Not too shabby

Refresh me on your blower setup....P600? and how much boost is the pulley you have now rated for?

Hi marc

The pulley that is on there i think is the 12lb pulley. with the 383 and the 3 core inner cooler it takes away form the boost. as you probably know.

im going to have asp make me a 17pd pulley so im hoping to get 13pds of boost. i have the p600b. i know i need a bigger blower but i dont want to spend the 2000 right now. even with the 17pd pulley i am still under 60000 revs on the blower. if it blows, it blows. i dont drive hard all the time so i think im ok.

how are you coming.

A P600B can handle a 15# pulley for 6400 rpm and then it's "Danger, Danger Will Robinson" and the little robot slinging it's arms in the air

It's not how much boost you're making it's how fast the impeller is spinning. I would not come close to max blower speed as you're loosing effeciency. Why don't you concentrate on inproving airflow on the intake side. Move the MAF to the pressureized side and fab up a 4" intake and 4 x 12 K&N filter? or at least fab up a solid 3 1/2 tube and get a larger filter. I would not go larger than a 15 # pulley.

My Z is maturing like a fine wine
It's making progress and will be done by early August.

Marc

marc

your right in what your saying but my motor will never 6400 rpm. (cam wont do it.) when i dynoed it the max horsepower and torque was aroung 5600 rpms, after that it lost power. if i run the 17pd pulley and keep it under the 6000 rpm the propeller is less than the 60,000 revs the blower is able to handle.

what type of rpms are you planning on turning?

Not going to the camaro show.

Going to see what it dyno's at to determine redline but not planning on revving the **** out of it. If I had to guess I'd say ~6000-6200 at the track and in the 5's on the street (will be able to set up different programs for my T-com).

Even if you keep it under the 60K I'd still be concerned about the effeciency of maxing the blower out. I'd also be concerned about belt slippage if you go to a smaller pulley some people have belt slippage on a 15# pulley let alone going even smaller.

Did you give any thoughts to improving the airflow on the intake side of the blower? Brett (from the blown section) picked up a few pounds of boost using his P600B (built 355) with a 4" solid intake and 4x12" air cleaner.

marc thanks for the info, i already did the 4 inch piping but i am using the smaller k@n filter. i will switch the filter and I bet that will help a little bit because i will get better air flow.

well if you dont go to the camaro show that is one less car i have to compete against. Just Kidding.

I think you are corect in your rpm range.

i think im going to trade my 12lb pulley with a guy who has a 15lb and im also going to have a 17lb made. then i can test them both and see where i stand. i think i can use the same belt on a 15 and 17. the 15 is 2.55 and the 17 is 2.35.

hopefully this will all be done for august 10th.
