What cam are you looking at? I am sure with LT1 edit you can find someway too pass. I am going to 224/230 .502/.510 on 114 with LE2 heads.

Re: cam and emissions

You can do any size cam. Your car doesnt go on the sniffer, they just scan the ecu to make sure there arent any codes.

Re: cam and emissions

The only problem I can think of at this point would be the misfire test. A big cam has a pretty lumpy idle which will be mistaken as the car missing, setting a code and making you fail the obd plug-in test. LT1-Edit for OBD-II lets you adjust the parameters of the misfire test, thus enabling larger cams not to set that code. I would also imagine setting the idle rpm higher would also help.

Tunercat is also poised to come out with 96-97 LT1 software. Supposedly June 6th. I am waiting for this as it is $380 vs $500. I am also not sure if it will have the above mentioned functionality. If you can wait I will let you know. Tunercat is usually pretty good about adding features. Furthermore Tunercat is not vin locked to one pcm.

Re: cam and emissions

OBD2 can pass inspection no matter what you do to the car as long as you have somone with edit delete anything that could throw codes hence why I pass with my car

Correct as long as it is edited out and no ses light you pass no matter what unless they crawl under your car and see there is no cats or if a shop knows the car and looks for the smog pump but I have never heard of anyone that does.

well i have a friend that does inspections and he said he would pass all the visual **** just that he wouldnt **** with the computer. i was under the impression the because my air and egr was deleted it would show it as not ready and i would fail. if thats the case all that **** is coming off asap. i might go by and plug in to his machine and see what it says.

As long as it was "deleted" in the pcm you will pass. Also if it was deleted and you still have the egr and what not that could be another reason why your low on power if the egr valve is stuck open or some other dumb thing.

This is what I thought too. If you disable the tests in LT1-Edit they show as "not ready". Now the question is how many "not ready's" can you have and still pass. People in other states have said 2 or 3 for a 96-97. However, I was told by a station owner here that if you have one "not ready" you won't pass. I am going to test that out because I think here would be the same as other states.

So when I get Tunercat I am going to turn off the egr and air tests and see what happens. Early June.

ive personally seen 3 not readys and a car still pass. but i have also seen 2 not ready and the car fail. I think it matter which components are not ready.
