cam and emissions
cam and emissions
can i pass inspection with a decent size cam? my car is obd2. i just dont want to start doing **** then in dec. not be able to get a sticker. i know i can get a sticker but would rather have the car be legit.
Re: cam and emissions
The only problem I can think of at this point would be the misfire test. A big cam has a pretty lumpy idle which will be mistaken as the car missing, setting a code and making you fail the obd plug-in test. LT1-Edit for OBD-II lets you adjust the parameters of the misfire test, thus enabling larger cams not to set that code. I would also imagine setting the idle rpm higher would also help.
Tunercat is also poised to come out with 96-97 LT1 software. Supposedly June 6th. I am waiting for this as it is $380 vs $500. I am also not sure if it will have the above mentioned functionality. If you can wait I will let you know. Tunercat is usually pretty good about adding features. Furthermore Tunercat is not vin locked to one pcm.

Re: cam and emissions
well i have a friend that does inspections and he said he would pass all the visual **** just that he wouldnt **** with the computer. i was under the impression the because my air and egr was deleted it would show it as not ready and i would fail. if thats the case all that **** is coming off asap. i might go by and plug in to his machine and see what it says.

So when I get Tunercat I am going to turn off the egr and air tests and see what happens. Early June.

People in other states have said 2 or 3 for a 96-97. However, I was told by a station owner here that if you have one "not ready" you won't pass. I am going to test that out because I think here would be the same as other states.
