What it takes to run NOS...

as of right now my '95 z28 a4 is bone stock. by spring i was hoping to do atleast a cat-back and an intake, and possibly headers, depends on my cash flow. i was also pondering the idea of tossing in a nitrous kit. i have 120,xxx mi. on the car and was wondering how much i should run, what kit i should get and if i need to change anything. would the NX WET kit be the best? also, do i need guages and stuff to measure and how much wud it cost me to purchase and get it installed. And if you live around me, where is the best place to get a nitrous kit installed? (i live in shrewsbury, MA). Any and all help would b appreciated.

thanx and take it easy guys,

jake

Seems like your going in the right path. If you were ME...
I'd do a catback and intake...then like u said headers (LT's if no emmisions), cut-out (always a nice mod thats cheap), ORP (if no emmisions but u can still run it even with emmisions. Just make the cat and pipe interchangeable) those mods are good for or if u do headers cuz its a free flowing exhaust ( even though some say its not needed, i believe its a big part of n20)

Are u automatic? Then i'd do gears either 3.42 or 3.73's along with a Vig 2800 stall or similar...

Programming sooner or later, Suspension (sooner or later) and TIRES (DR's or Slicks or both like me )

I'd say pending how your car is running...i'd do a NX wet Kit with NEW solinoids at least ( i wouldnt personally want to take any chances on used ones even if they have been tested) I'd spray a 100 shot. Some go 125, some go up to 150...but thats me...

Gauges are nice (n20 and fuel pressre) and like a Scanmaster is a good tool. A ignition like a MSD Digital 6, MSD 6AL or a Accel are all good. Window switch is recommended . Heater as well. Purge is a nice extra and well as a remote opener although not needed.
A Genx2 kit is a nice thing to have that includes the heater and purge among other little things...NGK TR6 plugs are essential if u do n20.

Then maybe one day u could do a cam/heads but thats getting real serious ya know?
Some choose the NA route with these, but i say why not do both? hehe

but remember ONCE YOU START, YOU'LL NEVER STOP. It sucks and its NOT CHEAP. But its Fun and thats all that matters hehehe

Remember this is what "I'd" do, but in no way am i telling you that you have to follow this plan. It just so happens that i do have everything i listed or have sitting in the closet waiting to be installed (cept the heads, i can afford that)

Good luck buddy!

and this is what I'D do

first, and foremost, take a look at your budget. this will have a large affect on what you are able to do. second, ask yourself what you want to do. do you want to go fast cheap? or do you want to do a build-up of your car over a period of time?

for me, my budget was about as small as it can get, so i was one of those guys that was interested in the first question, going fast for cheap. nitrous is the best way to do this. free mods, intake, and a good exhaust are also fairly cheap mods that increase the performance of the car and actaully help the N2O work a little better.

i bought my N2O kit out of summit racing catalog. i bought the edlbrock carberated kit, which is good for 50-150hp. a then purchased a NOS fogger nozzle. everything was bought brand new for under 400 bucks. i installed the kit myself in about 4-5 hours.

my intake i will be buying used for 75 bucks (a K&N CAI) my exhaust will be bought new for between 240-340 dollars. these, along with my free mods (MAF descreened, TB bypassed, 170* was 3.95 , gutted cats) and the N2O, will make my car a descent performer for about $700-800 total.

my N2O kit has been on now for about 2 1/2 months now with a basically stock LT1 and i have had no problems (other than a slipping converter in OD on the 150 pills )

If I were you, get the intake, catback and headers first, with an A4 get stall converter, then you'll need tires to hold that power.

After that, then I would go with the N20, then a rearend and some gears! By then you should have an 11's machine!

thanks

thanks guys, you's answered my question even before i posted it. I just bought a '94 ta a4 almost 3 months ago, and cant wait to do more mods. I want juice, but with college there isnt a good cash flow. So far i have a msd 6al (from the totalled mustang), 255 fuel pump, slp intake, 160* stat, gutted cat, beefed up tranny, 2200 converter, and vortech elbow.
