What fuel to run?? Please..Need answer today

I just completed the install of the nitrous and fuel system on my car and I am about to spray it. I have a separate 1 gallon dedicated fuel cell/pump/regulator for the nitrous. I have NGK R5671A-9 plugs and I am going to be pulling out 7 degrees of timing on the 150 shot and 11 on the 200 shot. I ma running around 35-36 total timing. I have a MSD digital 6 and I am running 11.5-1 compression. Right now I have a little over a quarter tank of 93 octane in my car and want to know what type of fuel to run for these shots. What fuel should I run in the cell (C16?) and what fuel should I mix in the tank (C10 unleaded?)?? I am not sure what fuel I should run but I am going to be getting the fuel from the local VP racing fuel distributor. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Matt

Matt,

It's hard to tell you what fuel will work best, not knowing all the facts of the engine like cam and few other things but based from what you listed I would recommend using the same fuel used in the nitrous cell also in the gas tank. By doing this you will have a better handle on controling burn rate when the nitrous is in use.

Things you want to consider when deciding on what fuel to use is the spec fuel gravity, look for a fuel the will have heavy spec gravity and another item to consider when choosing fuel with nitrous is also if the fuel is oxagenated? If this is the case DO NOT USE THE FUEL. I could go on and on about fuel with nitrous but the question you asked was what fuel to recommend?

Considering what your shooting the car C10 or 12 would probably work but your going to have to forgive me because I use Torqo fuel. If I was use I would not use the fuel designed for nitrous because I believe with your combination and the amount of nitrous your shooting really doesn't require it. Nitrous fuel works great with HI compression motor and large shots of nitrous. The nitrous fuel is a slow burn fuel and if you used it it more then likely it would possible hurt power for you because of the slow burning rate.

If you ever decide to start shooting above 300 plus and your cam and compression change to along the lines more of a nitrous combination I would then consider Torqo NOS 116 or Torqo NOS 118. I run the 118 and this is very distinct the color is red and when the car is run at idle the fumes will jsut about make your eye ***** jump out of your head. LOL Its pretty hard though on the eye's.

Run the 110 or 112 you will be more then fine.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply JWINN! I had already bought some fuel though the other day. I went with the C10 (104 research octane 96 motor octane 100R+M/2) unleaded in the tank and the c16 (116 motor ocatane) in the fuel cell. I actually got to try it out last night and the car responded beautifully. I was pulling 4 degrees of timing. I'll be checking the plugs thursday night to see how fat it is running but I wanted to run it as safe as possible for the initial testing of the system but I do not have any surging issues at all. Once I get a handle on the tune I'll start to experiment with some different fuels and their reations to the jettings. Again thanks for your recommendations and I'll be checking into those once I step up the shot to a 250 shot to get the car into the 9's.

My experience...

I'm running 91 octane oxygenated fuel on my 150 shot with no problems. I'm at 5200 ft in altitude and 91 is about the highest octane pump gas you can get here without pumping race gas and most fuels are oxygenated. Don't need as much octane at the higher altitudes. I was scanning while I was running the spray and everything looked good. I think as long as you stick to premium with the 150 shot, you should be fine. I'm running almost 11:1 cr also. Best thing to do if you can is scan it while your making a run (best on the dyno) and see what your O2's look like and if your getting any knock retard. That should give you a good idea about where your at. Good luck.

I run 104 octane Sunoco unleaded when I spray (up to 150hp shot on top of 17psi of boost). However, it is a low CR motor (~8.3:1). What you are describing sounds ok to me.
