Trying to squeeze the biggest shot out of a single stage system

Has anyone attempted to squeeze a bigger shot out of a single nozzle, single stage system? The kit comes with the jets to do a 150, which feels good, but I'm sure the saying that 'more is better' DEFINITELY applies to N20. I'm not worried about running a bigger shot on a forged rotating assembly, but I'm wondering if a kit upgrade is going to be necessary. It'd be nice to tack on 200 hp and a boat-load of torque with the setup that's already in the car.

Depends on the specific components in your system. The solenoid can become the limiting factor. A -4AN line has limits. A bottle valve has limits. I know with the NOS Super Powershot solenoids, you just can't get more than 175HP through them. I use two solenoids, two lines, two (dry) nozzles to spray 300. At one point they were wired up as a 2-stage system, but now they are a 1-stage setup.

depends on brand. i use compucar. the solenoids are rated for 275hp. kit comes with 100 and 150 pills. i bought 200 hp pills and it works fine. and i'm using the 04AN supply line for n2o. but for higher applications, moving to -6AN supply will be needed.

Thumbs up Re: Trying to squeeze the biggest shot out of a single stage system

I've done a 175 shot threw the NX iceman solenoids and shark nozzle. Buddy of mine did a 200 shot without issues.

That's what I have...NX Iceman solenoids and the shark nozzle. I figured someone would have tried it long before I thought of it. Just don't wanna see pieces of SRP forged pistons swimming in the oil pan...

Re: Trying to squeeze the biggest shot out of a single stage system

Sprayed many 200 shots at my SRP pistons without a problem. Just had to do a tear down due to a main bearing issue and the pistons checked out perfectly. I have put these pistons to the test with lots of nitrous. I rarely will do a NA pass in my car. I have post in the Drag racing section in July of 6.75 pass in the 8th so you can see for yourself.

you will notice diminishing returns. I would go to a 2 stage after 150hp. (through a single nozzle). Fogger(DP) systems are a different story

So your saying the 4AN line from the bottle to the solenoid and from the solenoid to the plate ( I am using a carb plate) will support a 200 shot (as long as the solenoid can flow that much) ?

That's good to know! What is the max shot thru a 4AN line ?

Re: Trying to squeeze the biggest shot out of a single stage system

You said single stage, you didn't say whether or not it had to be a plate

You can get single stage pro fogger systems 500+hp...

As for plates, on carb'd cars I believe the biggest is like a 300hit. As was said, the solenoids are generally what limits you. I had a CompuCar plate on my '96 that came with with 'noids rated to 100hp in their kit. I had Edlbrock 'noids that would go up to 150 and it worked fine. CompuCar said that the plate would go to about 175-200 if I had gotten bigger 'noids...

Re: Trying to squeeze the biggest shot out of a single stage system

the original poster (ntensez28) asked about single stage, single nozzle. not heavychevyss. yes -4AN on my car is currently supporting 200 hp level. on 150 n2o the motor put out 405 hp. on 200 with cutout closed it made 426hp a gain of 21hp. with cutoput open it made 442 hp. it's reaching it's limit.

Ahhhh, gotcha ! I just wanted confirmation that my 4AN lines will support a 200 shot. Thanks.
