Tried a Shark nozzle and 175 jets today...

Went to a street car shootout this weekend. Was hoping to come back with 10s, but fell short. Switched over from my 2 stage kit with Top Gun nozzles, to a single NX Shark nozzle and the 175 jets. I lost SEVEN, I repeat, SEVEN mph, and 2 -3 tenths. Ran a 11.3@115. I did pull my best 60ft with that nozzle. Pulled the left front tire to a 1.56 short time! Thats with stock LCA's, only have a Spohn tq arm. I swapped back to my original setup, 75 shot in the 1st stage, and 100 in the second, and picked back up 3mph. Ran my best time of that day. 11.29@120 with a 1.63 60ft. Still a tenth and 3mph off from my best 11.1@123 time. Both runs were in about the same weather, so Im pretty sure the car is just down on power. What can I say for 90k on the clock, and countless bottle runs. Then it was time for the radials. Did pull a new best time and best 60ft on the 275/50/15 BFGs. Ran a 11.39@118 with a 1.69 short time letting off the 2nd stage at the 1/8 mark, hence the lower MPH. With competition heating up, and pilling up, I stuck the 100 jets in the first stage. Didnt do any good. In the final round of the radial class, the bottle went empty. I ran a way off 11.8, against his 11.15. If only I would have had more in the bottle, that would have been a GREAT race! Live and learn I suppose.

That was the question I was getting ready to post.

right now I am running the NX 150 shot and have gone 10.90 with the single shark nozzle.

I was wanting to bump that another 25. I just didnt know if it would be worth a crap.

Can you think of any reasons why it slowed you down?

Thanks,
Jeff

Im really not sure. I pulled the plugs after a run, and they looked fine. The front 2 cylinders were just a tad bit lean which is normal for my car. No detonation and was running 112 octane. Im just not sure what the deal is.

I shot my car with a 200 shot 2 weekends ago and it pulled unbelievable. I was yanking the tires off the ground on the 2nd gear shift and getting 6-10 inches under them easily.

Its to bad my tranny was giving me a fit and not letting me shift quickly. I'm talking a couple tenths between shifts bad. On the video it sounds like its a rookie driving who cant find the gears.

but anyway, I was running 112 just like you Kyle just to play it safe and the motor seemed to handle what the Shark nozzle was giving it. I know that my stock bottom half was probably not to happy to have another 200 on top of the 490 its already making

I am looking for parts for a forged bottom half this winter.

It is 416 at the rear with the belt and air filter off (race trim).

395 RWHP with all that stuff on for the street.

Thats based on 17% drivetrain reduction.

Shawn, I cant remember off the top of my head what the jet sizes were. Its whatever Dirk and NX and most ppl on the board recomended. Ill have to look.

BTW, I might have found part of my problem. The SES light would come on at the top of the track during every run. I just figured it being the O2s dying on me with the leadded gas and all. Turns out my knock sensor is giving me problems. Seems the connector has loosened up somehow. Going back this weekend to see if I can get my 10, and get that nozzle to work better.

forgive me for hijacking your thread, but you said LEADED gas. I have no cats, and was wondering if i can mix leaded with premium unleaded with no ill effects. What kind of fuel can i use aside from 93 octane? Diesel? Lead octane adder?

Well, Id go with the 200, if the 175 would have matched the home made dual stages 175 hit. Like I posted, I lost 3 mph with the shark nozzle (trapped 117) vs the Top gun nozzles with NX reccomended 75/100 jets (trapped 120). I now know why my car lost 3mph from the last time I was there (trapped 123 with the Top Gun nozzles) due to the knock sensor. But I just dont understand why the NX nozzle with NX jetting would do worse.

PostalZ, I havent had good luck with leaded gas and o2s. I have mixed about 5 gal of leaded to about 8 gal of 93, and did pretty good. Matter of fact, the whole 8 gallons of 112 I used this past time hasnt seemed to have affected the o2s.

Ok, heres what I was running jet wise on the dual stage.

n/f

75hp - 41/26
100hp - 52/35

And for the NX nozzle

175hp - 73/38

My guess would be that the 2 nozzles are not working as hard and are more effcient. I always like running <125 per nozzle.
