Tips for a new user??
Tips for a new user??
I just ordered a Nitrous Works TBI Wet Kit and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for me setting it up. I was ethier gonna but it in the back compartment or where the spare tire goes. I have a friend who is going to help me set it up but is there anything I should change before we install it like spark plugs or anything??
Re: Tips for a new user??
You should change to a colder plug. I use the ngk tr6 some people use autolites, I can't remember the number I'm sure someone will help me out with that. Make sure you have all the safety switches (wot switch, fuel pres switch ect...). I put my bottle where the spare tire goes, makes it nice if you wanna suprise people at the track.
Re: Tips for a new user??
I have been researching nitrous this last week a bunch ( I am looking at getting a kit) From what I have found to do a nitrous setup safely and the right way you will need the following 1. An msd or other brand window switch 2. Bottle pressure gauge 3. bottle heater 4. fuel pressure safety switch (some have troubles getting it to work) 5. wot switch (will come with kit probably) 6. Tr6 plugs gapped at .030 to .035 or close to there 7. a nitrous filter to keep the solenoids clean and keep em from sticking (some have it and some don't)
Some general rules I have picked up: keep bottle pressure at around 900-950 psi, dont spray below 3000 rpms and to be safe shut spray off about 200 rpms before your rev limiter (window switch can do that automatically for you) I am still learning myself and am still researching some of the different stuff.
You can get that stuff I listed at many online stores and I'm sure local performance shops will carry alot of it.
Do a search on google, or even a search on this board if you are confused on some certain areas.........trust me there is a wealth of knowledge out there.

Re: Tips for a new user??
Whats the deal with not spraying below 3000 rpms. I shift at about 4250 so thats not much room for me. Maybe you are talking about LT1 or LS1 cars. I have the lowly L03 TBI.

If you spray it below 3,000-3,500 RPM cylinder pressures will go through the roof and cause some very bad carnage. If you're only spraying a 50 shot or so you would probably be okay, but I still wouldn't recommend it. Just set up your window switch to come on at 3K and off at 4.5K or so. If you try to spray it off idle you may run into traction problems anyways. Better to be safe and leave a tenth or two on the table than to watch a tow truck haul your car home from the track. I have forged pistons in my engine, and I'm setting up my window switch for 4-6K to be extra safe.
Re: Tips for a new user??
I am just gonna run spray in 2nd gear and above so the lowest it would be is about 2500 or so. Also, how much time can I expect to pick up if I run about a 100 shot. I am running 15.9-16.1 right now.
