Thinking about nitrous...what should i get...newbie

I have a 1997 Camaro Convertible, A4, 70K on the odo. I haven't done any modifications to my engine although i'm planning on just adding a CAI and 160 thermo this summer. I was thinking about adding nitrous since its the cheapest way for the most horsepower. What shot would you suggest, i'm guessing it would be pretty small since I have a stock engine and I don't want to hurt the engine at all. How easy are they to install, would I be able to do it myself. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

NX kits are great and you can get the whole 9 yards for about $900 with everything

I think you should be able to run at least 75 rwhp.

I added 100 rwhp with my Supercharger.

3.8? I would bet 75 before fuel probs. I would love to just juice one up starting at 75 and work my way up untill she aint happy no mo! A couple bolt on's, a good gear, and a 120 shot would make for some unhappy campers in the GT crowd.

If you can use simple hand tools then self installation should be no prob.

Run a separate nitrous enrichment circuit with a small fuel cell up front....

You may want to find out if a V6 conv. speed limiter cuts fuel or spark. If it's fuel, you need to have it removed so you don't go boom.

What about on a stock lt1 motor though. would a 100 be safe with no motor damage? i know nitrous is going to be hard on a motor no matter what just like any other power adders but would you guys even say run nitrous on a motor that is stock or should it be built up with forged pistons and rods?

100 should be just fine on a stock LT1 even with a lot of miles(as long as your not smoking and stuff).

Yeah my motor has 85,xxx miles on it but runs great and doesn't have any indication of bad wear. It is clean and well maintained and the only thing that really tells it had the miles is the odometer. So you all think a 100 shot would be ok and worth it on a stock lt1 motor?

Shure, you wouldnt be happier. Start out at 100. If you feel the need for more then go to 130. When you want 175 - 200 then forged goodies, trans upgrade, and rearend. Lots of fun and cheap to do.

Would a dry shot be better for a newbie? I really want to add nitrous but I don't want to do anything to my engine. I heard that a dry is just nitrous sprayed into the air intake? So i'm thinking that if I just get a CAI, new sparkplugs to handle the colder temperature, better fuel filter and an adjustable 50-100 horsepower shot then I should be all set. Would I need anything else?

Thanks for the help guys. I think that is the direction I am going to head. Use a 100 shot this year and then over the winter forge the the motor and bump up the hit on the bottle.
