Tapping fuel rails?

I have an LT1 car and with the way the direct port setup is plumbed, I have to relocate where the fuel lines hook up to the fuel rail on the driver's side of the manifold.

What I'm going to end up doing is get rid of the plastic line and run a steel braided lines from where the stock feed and return lines end.

On all the modified LT1 rails I have seen, a fitting is welded on the back side of each rail. Is it possible to yank out the hardlines from the back of the rail, then just tap them so an AN fittings can be screwed into place? Is there enough meat there and is it "deep" enough to do this?

The thing is, I don't need any more fuel volume. The only reason I'm doing this is to reconfigure the lines so the #7 fogger nozzle won't hit the factory fuel line "pickup" location.

Unfortunately, from my experience there's not enough meat to tap the back of rail, even for a stock sized pipe fitting. Welding is probably your best bet.
