Spraying through the shifts...

OK, I got to put my car on the dyno finally and after looking at my HP and TQ I think that my built 4L60E should be able to handle the spray through the shifts. If you look at my HP and TQ at 5800 RPM it's LESS than most people's built 396's.
Here's my dyno run

Here's my dyno - http://www.azsupersport.com/pics/dyno2.jpg

Of course I have. Using a window switch to turn it off about 300 rpm prior to shifting. In the Impy world about 99% of us do it that way.

The only concern is I'm putting down 458 TQ to RW at the shift points....

I'll try one run this weekend and see if she'll shift!

The TQ and HP peaks are spikes and are not the actual curve. They don't apply...

I don't plan on spraying though the shifts myself. I just had my tranny re-built due to a craked housing. Don't plan on paying $2200 again to have it re-built.

If your tranny is built, I wouldn't worry about spraying through the shifts.

Stock tranny & spraying through shifts is begging for a rebuild. My tranny is already shot and that's N/A with a little over 400 ft/lbs at the wheels.

JMO, but i would just take the n2o off the car then. no point in half-assing it. i wouldnt waste my time if i couldnt get FULL results from it. this is ESPECIALLY true if youve got a built tranny. i dont know if you just got it rebuilt back to stock spec (which i hope you didnt considering you said you paid 2,2k for it), but with a built tranny theres no reason not to spray the whole run. that's why you build them.

something else to think about, power is power. what would you do if you had a NA stroker motor putting out 450+rwhp?? theres no way you can really "let off" there...

JMO..

That's a good point about NA v. nitrous. But the context is that the tranny is marginal for high hp. So since you can dial back the hp during a shift with N2O, it's probably a good idea to do so unless you have an upgraded tranny. How strong is strong enough for a given hp (and tire)? There seems to be a lot of different opinions on this. But if I had a stock 4L60E and nitrous, and was interested in tranny longevity, I would not spray through the shifts.

agreed.

however, i still feel that if you're worried about your tranny or are looking for longevity, that you should just leave it (n2o, or any other major mods for that matter) alone until you get your driveline set up like you want. if you're going to take the chance on a stock tranny, then take it and dont try and "walk the line".

Well I guess you feel how you feel about stuff. I'm not trying to win any NHRA championships or anything here, I'm just trying to have a good time at the track once a month and keep my daily driver alive, so I'm going to keep if safe. JMO.

I just sprayed 150 shot thought the shift last night, no problems.

my best run was 11.5 @ 120 with a 1.787 60ft, spraying at the end of first gear.

I don't even have a pressure guage.
