solid roller LT4 383, what type of N2O setup for a big shot...

I am finishing up a solid roller LT4 383 and I am completely green to Nitrous. I decided that i want to go with nitrous over the other power adders, because it won't be putting strain on the motor at all times.

Anyways, I know I am going with a fully forged 383, that my engine builder (Jordon Musser) believes will get to about 460-470rwhp with my a4 setup.

So here are my questions:

Is Direct Port the only way to reliably spray a 250-300 shot?

What length rods do I need to go with? 5.85?

Jordon wants to build me a stand-alone fuel system for the nitrous setup. He is going to relocate my battery and place the fuel cell in that stock position.

On direct port systems, if it is advertised for a 300 shot, does it in fact give you the 300rwhp?

Thanks

Direct port is the way to go for a big shot. It reduces puddleing and delivers an even amount of nitrous to every cylinder.

Let Jordan pick your rods. He is very competant and can figure that all out for you. Just tell him your plans (which I already assume he knows based on the fuel system) and he can pick some custom pistons and rods etc.

As for horse power ratings, it depends on the kit and the tune. Direct port kits tend to be harder to get perfect because jet changes etc are hard. It also depends on the setup. Large shots of nitrous tend to vary greatly due to compression, flow, drive train etc. Some people put out 240rwhp with a 200 shot and some put out 250rwhp with a 250 shot. It should be close to advertised though.

Yeah, he told me that a 300 shot isn't a big shot He said that a 700 shot is big. I informed him that is an INSANE shot.

Anyways, I know that he knows, I was just trying to do some research while sitting here bored at work.

What length rods does an engine builder normally recommend for a nitrous motor (read an occasional nitrous spray)? Is 5.85 the optimal length rod for this application?

I have found it varies builder to builder and company to company.

Some like shorter rods and some longer. There is the argument for side loading with a longer rod, and thus most builders move toward the 5.7 or 5.85 rod. I was under the same impression to use a 5.85 rod, but Diamond piston recommended I go with a 6.0 (for their custom piston). So my motor has a 6.0 rod.

It won't really hurt you to go on the safe side/durability side and use a 5.85 rod. But Jordan knows all of that and his choice is probably based on far more knowledge than my post.

I am in the same boat, I am between TNT and NX direct port. Anybody have any favorites?

I have a NX direct port setup. I got it already plummed and such, but from what I can tell it is a great product. I won't have nitrous dyno numbers until March so I can't answer questions about that.

TNT and NX are a bit of a toss-up. Both good products, though I have never actually seen someone running a TNT DP. I doubt you will have a problem with either, so I would base my choice on things like product support/warranty and price.

Good luck with your choice.
