Angry Solenoid wires get HOT - HOT!!

I have not raced the car in quite a while and I bench tested the solenoids on the NOS dry kit today. The NOS system has not been used in approx. 1yr. When I hook the solenoids to 12v, the wires get extremely hot (to the point if I held it to 12v long enough it would melt the plstic on the wire). Both solenoids are doing this. Both solenoids still click when 12v is put to them. I took the upper cover off of one of them and didn't see anything but some definite rust. The two small black wires were fine all the way into the coil.....so its not a short in the wire. I have never messed with the solenoids, but I know that there are rebuild kits. Since the solenoids are still clicking, are just my coils bad in both? Any insight or ideas? Suggestions?

Did you check to see if you had a good ground? Generally when a power wire gets hot, it due to a bad ground.

Get bigger wires I think the NOS brand noids draw 6 amps for the big ones and 5 for the small ones.

I dont have them setting in front of me, but I am 99% positive that the cheater solenoids come wired with 14 gauge wire out of the solenoid. Unless he is necking it down before the solenoid I doubt thats it.

Sometimes people can't just reach in their pockets and buy NEW stuff. If it is definately needed then fine but if it can be FIXED then that would be better for most of us.
