Schrader valve question
Schrader valve question
I've had an NX wet kit on my car for over 2 years now. I want to send in the fuel solenoid to get checked, and-or rebuilt, if needed. I don't have the core part that I took out of the schrader valve, to hook up the fuel line. I'm wondering if a regular valve core out of a tire valve-stem would work?
All I need to do is cap off the schrader while I send in the fuel solenoid for inspection.
Thanks,
Zack

.. first hand experience ... i had to steal one out of my spare tire
ps. i doubt just capping it off will hold 40 psi of pressure .. u need a valve in there for suer
Thanks guys, I appreciate it!
Did you have to remove yours to get your fuel solenoid checked? I wonder how often these things need to be rebuilt...?
Like I said, I've had the juice on my car for over 2 years, but I've only put 4 or 5 bottles through it. The solenoids haven't seen a lot of use. However, last time I hit the 150 shot, my car detonated, when I first hit it (felt like it was hitting the rev limiter, but wasn't) and then took off like normal. When I checked my plugs, one of the electrodes was broken off.
That was like 10k miles ago, though.
Anyway, I've been wondering if possibly my fuel solenoid was sticking closed or something...?
Ohh yeah, and after that little detonation thing, I jetted down to a 75 shot, and everything worked fine. I still wanna get that solenoid looked at.

If you're using a stock fuel pump, it sounds more like a dip in fuel pressure from the large volume of fuel needed to supply the 150-shot, hitting all at once. In other words, your fuel pump couldn't keep up from that quick "request."
That's what I think, considering it runs fine with the 75-shot.

I dunno, possibly. I'm beginning to wonder if the fuel filter may have been in need of a change. I used the 150 shot for a year, no problem. Then all the sudden one day it started detonating.
If it runs fine with the smaller shot, here's what I would check
look at your 150 jets, some trash may have gotten in there
change the fuel filter (how many miles on it?)
check the fuel pressure, or install a safety switch on the fuel side.. that way if the pressure does drop, your spray will shut off and save you some broken parts..
cheap insurance!
oh, and you can use a standard reverse flare cap to seal it, works fine. A cheap brass one from the auto parts store has been on my buds 93 for a year now with no leaks.

What's the procedure for removing the core? Simply wait for the fuel pressure to drop way down then remove it? Should I expect a burst of fuel or anything? Ready to do it this weekend, the ignition will be complete tomorrow (full retard control, window switch, and rev limiter), the bottle is in the spare well, the feed line has been run to the engine compartment, and the arm switch is installed. I bought the core removal tool a couple weeks ago after we started the initial install.
We let the car sit for a while with the gas cap off, etc, and quite a bit of fuel still came out. Just have a couple rags handy. Also remember to hook the fuel line from off the rail up to the fuel solenoid before starting or else you might get a little spray action going on. Ask me how I know
