Safe shot of nitrous?

I am wanting to get nitrous for my LT1 Z and was wondering what would be a safe shot? The engine is mostly stock with just an intake and throttle body. Wet, dry shot and how big to still be safe?

You can run anywhere from a 75 shot to 150 shot. A wet or a dry kit would be suitable for this amount of nitrous. The main thing is to make sure you have all of the safety gear before spraying and your motor should live a long a healthy life. Stuff like a window switch, fuel pressure safety switch, bottle heater, ect. should be considered.

Do yourself a favor since you haven't purchased a kit yet, and go with a wet kit.............much more tunable, safer, Ect........Try hooking up a fuel pressure safety switch on a dry kit that has a varying (like many do) 80-95LB fuel pressure spike while being used.....I don't even think they make a FPSS(hobbs switch) that goes above 60PSI yet? do they?

An injector upgrade would be more so geared towards a dry kit. As for the wet kit, a fuel pump upgrade would be a good idea.

Re: Safe shot of nitrous?

Thats a perfect start.......Next thing (down the road) IMO would be a good aftermarket ignition box like the MSD digital 6 plus........that will give you a revlimiter that cuts spark(not fuel) like your stock revlimiter.....It will also give you an adjustable retard while your spraying(2 degrees of timing pulled for every 50HP is a good safe amount).....it's also produces a much better(hotter) spark than your stock ignition.......Don't forget the colder plugs, and a bottle gauge if your kit dosn't come with one.....this way you can use the heater your getting to get the pressure just right

Re: Safe shot of nitrous?

you'll need a colder spark plug... also make sure your car maintains good oil pressure, and doesnt leak/burn oil before spraying...

Seems like most ppl are going with NGK TR6's, Thats what im going to use on my stock LT1 w/ 75/100 shot...

Autolite also has the 103 and 104 plugs which could work...

How do you retard the timing on the LT1?

do yourself a favor and get a Mallory 685 box. It has window switch, retard and better spark all in one box. Also you might want to pick up a purge and blow down tube.

Re: Safe shot of nitrous?

I have done 175 wet to a stock LT1 without any problems. But I may be an exception to the trend. Go wet and go 150 max. Make sure your properly tuned for it and you should have no problems.
