running nitrous

I own a 94 Z28 A4 and am looking into purchasing the NX kit i was wondering what else i need to buy to go the safe route. And any info on how difficult the install is. I am a do it yourself kind of person and wondering if this is feesable.

Thanks in advance

The install is not too difficult with basic skills.

Look at getting a Gen-X II kit in addition to the base kit, also you will want an RPM window switch and possibly an MSD ignition box, and some colder range spark plugs gapped down a little.

You need a window switch, for sure. If you aren't sure about this you can read the thread on the question of window switches that is active (http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...1&pagenumber=1) and decide for yourself whether to believe me and Kurtis Tamez or some of the folks with a different opinion.............

I agree with the window switch being a must with nitrous. Also a bigger fuel pump is a must too. 1 step colder plugs too. Installing nitrous is not hard at all. Just take your time, be carefull and you should be good to go. I dnt know if its more of a pita to install on an Fbody due to possible less space, but all in all, its not too hard.

Check this link out and scroll down on it to see a wiring diagram for installing nitrous. This link helped me out a lot.

I am going to get the window switch for sure. Will a MSD 6Al ignition box do the trick? Also is a new fuel pump absolutly necasary I replaced my stock one a while ago with a OEM one and it was a pain so i dont want to do that again unless i need to.

Fuel pumps are mandatoy IMO with nitrous. I like to do things the right way rather than just being able to sneak by, ya know? I dont know how much pumps are for Fbodys nor do I know how hard they are to install, but id spend the $$ to do it right and have piece of mind knowing you have the fuel. The 6AL will give you better spark for the juice, i dont know how/if it will help though. It will have a port on it to splice the window switch coil lead into. The WS will also splice into the ground side of the relay, not the ground side of the solenoids as the solenoids are too powerful for the window switch to control directly.

I am not a pro at nitrous, as a mater of fact i've only just started using nitrous on my 92 Mustang. I have done lots of research though, though some people may disagree w/ my advice given, I feel its good advice i've given.

I would go with a MSD Digital 6 before buying a 6AL. The Digital 6 has a built in timing retard control so when you hit the juice, the timing gets retarded a couple degrees. I run the 6AL and a Start/Retard Control box on top of it to handle the timing retard while spraying. Had the Digital 6 been on the market when I bought the 6AL, then I would have certainly bought it over buying the two boxes I am running.

Also, like Grn92LX said, the fuel pump is a good upgrade when you throw Nitrous into the mix. You can never have too much fuel flow as long as you have a working fuel pressure regulator. Any extra flow just gets returned to the tank .

I just bought a NX wet kit myself, and everything I have read says that as long as you're going to go with a smaller shot (100 hp or less) the stock fuel pump will work just fine. Just my two cents.

what size fuel pump should i get. Acording to the above posts i couldnt go too big. I am planning more mods in the future and just wondering what size well be adequite for awhile. Also should i get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator at the same time. This i s startung to be alot more money than i was inticapating but i want to do it right the first time. I am also guessing the power gains are well worth the cost Also how about fuel injectors?

thanks for all the help

Wait until you do motor mods to upgrade the fuel injectors. Since it is a wet kit, the fuel needed for the nitrous is injected through the nozzle and the injectors just feed the motor as they normally would.

Look to the Walbro fuel pump for a replacement. I run two GSS340's, but you could probably run just one GSS307 in place of the stock pump. They are both rated for 255lph. The only difference in the 307 and the 340 is the high pressure capacity of the pump which if you were to boost your motor would be beneficial.

If you're not running a huge shot (175+) the 103 plugs will probably be too cold. I know some use them with standard shots, but they are supposed to be two whole steps colder than stock. 104s would probably be better.

As for the window switch, I suggest getting Mallory's. It has a built-in dial for lower and upper RPM settings instead of pills and isn't very expensive (~$70). I believe the part # at Summit Racing is MAA-628.

And the fuel pump, I agree that you don't need one for 100hp and under. Any higher and I would get one. I run lean with 150hp shot on my stock fuel pump & engine, FWIW.

Not only is the MSD Dig 6 a "must-have", but it netted me two tenths at the track. Probably be even better for you.

This is the unit that I run, but they have quit making and selling it due to low demand. Otherwise, it is the unit I would have recommended because it is easy to adjust and you do not need any pills for it.

Another option is to get the Harlan window switch for about $55. Many of you know him for his awesome Shift lights and he now sells a window switch too that does not need pills (i.e. cheaper).

Get them here... http://www.harlan-engineering.com/store/store.html
