Recommendations for First Kit for Stock LT1?
Recommendations for First Kit for Stock LT1?
Hello, I'm looking for recommendations to a begginer who's choosing his first nitrous oxide kit for a stock LT1. I guess a 100 shot is about what everyone is reccomending for a safe level.
Here is what I was thinking about getting myself for Christmas since I've been so good:

NOS Nitrous System for 1993-1997 LT1 Camaro/Firebird w/ 15 lb bottle for $719.99

Re: Recommendations for First Kit for Stock LT1?
My recommendation would be a wet kit. I don't like to idea of having to raise the fuel pressure like on the dry NOS kit. One from NX or nitrous works would be my recommendation. Either would be about 200 dollars cheaper as well IMHO
either way it's fun stuff, just don't over do it

I am on my first N20 kit and its a NOS wet kit (5151) made for TPI cars but works just the same on an LT1, I would definetly go with a wet kit, its just safer.
Re: Recommendations for First Kit for Stock LT1?
i think a wet kit is a much better kit for power but for a starter kit a dry kit is much more forgiving with small mistakes. you can make the kit you have a link to much cheaper get a nos part number 5115 it is the same kit only the main line hose is a little shorter and it does not with a fuel pump. other then that the kit is exactly the same. save the money and buy a fuel pump seperately.

I think the NX kit is a much better kit over all but dry kit is a much better new to nitrous kit. it is much more forgiving. here are some reason why. 1. say for instance you have a 100 dry vs a 100 wet. the initial hit is smother on a dry. wich make the car easier to control. 2. bottle pressure is much less important on a dry kit. if you only have 800 psi in a dry kit it will just make less power on a wet kit the car goes lean. 3. if you run the bottle empty with a dry kit nothing happens if you run a bottle empty with a wet kit it just dumps fuel in. it just lets you make a few more mistakes. hence a good starter kit.

Zex Dry kit with the 255 walbro inline pump is a great starter kit as well. It plus a window switch and your first bottle fill is under $750, leaves plenty of room for a bottle heater, pressure guage, etc that you may want. It is a simple install. And it matches the fuel pressure increase to the bottle pressure, so even if you arent hitting all out, you are hitting as much as your bottle can. A wet kit in that condition of lower pressure would run rich and bog.
Ive managed mid 120 traps on a Zex dry kit with only a ~150 shot, stock heads, hotcam, shorty headers, no bottle heater. Its a potent little kit in the right hands.

A nitorus pressure guage is the most important extra i you dont know pressure is in the bottle you really have no idea what is going on. A bottle heater helps out quite a bit but you can get away with out one a blow dryer works and so does the heater in the car just kind of a pain in the *** to have to do it that way.
Re: Recommendations for First Kit for Stock LT1?
yes a pressure guage is basically a must with a wet kit, as is some way to heat your bottle. I dont have a pressure guage with my dry kit though, as it is not as important. A bottle heater would be nice too, but the bucket o warm water has gotten the job done this far. I'll get around to it one of these days, but its my spare car so it doesnt get as much $$ lovin
I'll be finishing J&J Speed Shop's web site soon, maybe then as a new store special we'll become a paid advertiser and run a group buy, since I know he has NX and Zex deals

Most of the basic kits by Zex, NOS, and NX are good, and you're running such a small shot that a wet kit probably isn't needed... but personally I'd go with a wet kit anyways. Just for that added bit of security I guess. The Zex kit I got was very easy to setup.. as was the remote bottle opener for it.

I agree the ZEX and TNT kit is also a good kit.The Zex kit is a good beginner kit. However if you plan on spraying more latter why not just go ahead and buy a system that will flow for 35 hp to 150 out of the box. Then in the future all you need is the extra jets and the system will flow up to 250 hp.It sure beats having to make an investment twice.Plus the NX kits have lifetime warrenty solenoids.
