I'll use my buddy as an example. Racing from a dead stop, he activates the nitrous(but it won't come on until 3300rpms because of the window switch and also because of the wot switch). When he nails it it hooks comes out of the hole then hits 3300rpms, nitrous comes on he looses traction. Now he has two options, stay in it and hope it eventually hooks, or feather the gas so it hooks. If he stays in it he'll most likely spin through all of 1st and part of 2nd and be slower than if he feathers it. BUT, if he lifts to feather it, then the nitrous kicks off and can possibly cause his car to BOG, but if he goes 100% throttle again the nitrous kicks on and caused him to spin again. Pretty much he was screwed when trying to spray in 1st gear, but if he had that extra 75 horse on motor he could feather it and be faster. I hope that helps.

100 shot on an otherwise mostly stock a4 lt1 shouldnt have any problem hooking with drag radials... what's all this wait 'till 60' or second gear BS

When I was close to stock, Id spray the Yokohama's (sp?) way before the 60ft mark. With BFG drag radials I spray'd the car as soon as it moved.

1982z28with18s,
Thanks for our repley. I'm sure there are many examples we can all learn from.

I dunno, sounds like you're just guessing on the how fast someone could be not hooking n/a vs nitrous - that really depends on the driver and how and when the kit is activated, and how well someone can feather the throttle. No rule that says you've got to run a WOT or rpm activation either. A momentary button can work just fine by allowing you to get in/out of the nitrous while staying a full throttle...

And don't stay away from nitrous 'cause it provides instant torque. Man, that's exactly what's great about it. Nitrous (at least initially) is cheap enough that you can put a 75, 100, 150 shot on an LT1 without going into the motor, and still have money left over for suspension parts and tires to make it hook with the additional torque.

So let me get this straight: your buddy comes out of the hole under 3300rpms, and when the spray hits he loses traction. So he lets off the throttle, straightens it out, and gets back in it. How long does his car take to get to 3300rpm in 1st gear? Zero seconds is my guess, since 3300 rpms amounts to what, 15mph? There are lots of reasons not to run spray, but this isn't one of them because it just doesn't happen.

I'm talking about on the streets and how can you say it doesn't happen when I've seen it happen to him many times. I'm not saying don't get nitrous, **** next year I'll be running the bottle, but I'm just saying if you don't hook, you have to lift thus turning off the nitrous and being down on power. His car is lowered and isn't setup strickly for drag racing so that hurts his traction. He's also only running 245/50/16 nitto drag radials. If he stepped up to some et streets he wouldn't have a problem, but I'm just giving an example of what can happen.

I've never bogged after I've lifted and gotten back into it.
