Questions about solenoid bottle openers
I was thinking about getting either a DynoTune or Cold Fusion. My bottle is underneath my specially built woofer box in the hatch. First, can you manually open the bottle, then leave it with the pressure on the opener all the time? Second, I would assume the pressure gauge goes before the opener itself? And, what kind of switch does this kind of opener use? I refuse to pay $250 for a damn little motor.
Re: Questions about solenoid bottle openers
You could leave the bottle valve open, but after awhile they do have a tendency to leak. I would personally shut the bottle valve if you aren't going to be using your nitrous for a day or so. The CFN ones do have a lifetime warranty on them, so after a while if you do start to get a leak you'll be covered. The one big advantage to a solenoid style opener is you can shut the main feed line in less then a second if you ever have some kind of problem. It uses a standard toggle switch to open or close.
Thanks,
Matt

Re: Questions about solenoid bottle openers
No, what he's saying is that if you're not going to be running the nitrous for an extended period of time, you might want to close the bottle valve manually. It's generally not good for the solenoid seals to keep pressure on them for long periods of time (like days I guess).
For example, let's say you onle use the nitrous on the weekends, and not through the week. So open the bottle Friday, leave it open and use the solenoid opener until Sunday when you close the bottle again for the week. Then repeat the next weekend.
At least, that's the impression I got from his post.
Myself, personally, I wouldn't leave the nitrous bottle open when the car is unattended. IF you had a leak inside the car, you could open the door to a cloud of nitrous oxide and end up suffocating because of it.
I bought a NOS bottle opener and wired it up so that the only time the bottle can be open is when the main arming switch is on, and that can only be on when then key is on. So, when the key or arming switch turns off, the bottle closes automatically.
