Purging nitrous into the intake?

Some buddies have mine have a purge kit and bottle laying around, they want to hook it into my intake before my MAF and just purge it into my intake with a button...

I keep saying "uhh will my fuel pump and injectors be able to keep up with it?" and they keep telling me yeah they do it all the time to different cars... Keep in mind 1 guy is about 40 other is about 65... They've been racing all their life and currently have their son driving their 5.39 second (1/8) vega... I dont doubt these guys know what they're talking about, but im just worried about my motor

Ugh...why would you want to purge it into the intake???
It's much easier to went it outside, right?
I don't get it...

OK, I see you have an LT1. Do not purge nitrous into the intake, the MAF sensor won't be able to add extra fuel, and you will be blowing your engine!

He is talking about purging nitrous into the intake as a cheap nitrous system, not to just get air out of the lines.

Alot of guys in the heads up street racing world would do this. If they where in a class that only allows 1 nitrous stage, they would direct thier purge into the intake for a "hidden" and illegal 2nd stage.

If you did this it would be just like adding a dry nitrous kit without knowing the hp level or adjusting fuel pressure for it. I would don't think i would do it.

good luck

You are basicaly talking about a dry system. Dry systems on the LT1 add the extra fuel by increasing the fuel pressure at the injector. I do not believe that spraying through the MAF on a LT1 will give you the extra fuel you need to avoid detonation.

It sounds like a bad idea to me.

In general, spraying in front of the MAF and hoping it will add the extra fuel is not proven in the LT1. It works fine on the LS1, but the PCM is a much faster processor, and alledgedly is stays in closed loop (NOS claimed that as the basis for their 5177 LS1 dry kit, but a few people have contradicted that claim - I just know it works on the LS1). I have seen posts from at least 2 people here that have sprayed LT1's in front of the MAF, and claim that it worked. I personally would be very hesitant to do it. It is purely "hit or miss", since the MAF is calibrated based on the oxygen content and specific heat of common air, and the oxygen content and specific heat of nitrous is not the same.

You also need to make sure that the nitrous is not impinging on the MAF sensor in a liquid state, because that will really throw it off.

Its very risky on an lt1 for the reasons that Fred gave.....I would tell them no way. Even "if" the pcm could compensate fast enough anything bigger than a 75 shot would require an injector upgrade to be on the safe side.(thats what the ls1 guys do around here)

lets see here

putting homemade jerryrigged nitrous that you know nothing about and risk blowing up your motor.

or do it the right and proven way of buying the correct kit

my mind is made up

I had one of those on my Z back in 96'. With the proclaimed 60hp shot, my car went from 13.60's down to 12.80's only spraying it in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. Neat little kit, but kind of rolling the dice in what the MAF see's
