Purge question

I almost have my NX set up ready to go on the car minus a few things. I'm currently debating wheather or not to run a purge. I will be spraying mostly on the steet occasionaly and they kit will be hidden. I won't be spraying at the local 1/8 track often as I would rather not do a roll cage right now.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I don't spray but maybe every other week or so, even if everything is operating right, N20 backfires are possible right? From my expiriences when someone backfires loudly some believe the car is sprayed. I don't want to be any reason for someone to think this (other than being beaten). Is a purge neccesary? I don't want to shoot it out over the hood although I think it looks cool. Would this be another option? Running the purge lines beneath the car and purging for just a few seconds? I asked another guy and he said that was the reason for running a purge; to make sure the lines were cleaned. But wouldn't a few short seconds of purging get most of the air out? and thus limit the possibilty of an accidental backfire? Thanks for the help.

A purge solenoid/system is not a neccessity. You can always rev the car up a bit, then purge through the engine. Yep, purging makes sure you dont have air in the lines, and you've got a fresh supply of nitrous to the solenoid. It also helps release pressure off the nitrous solenoid after you close the bottle and are ready to shut down for the day/evening.

But actually, on the street, you'll find that you probably hook better without purging, since you'll have a much softer hit.

I havent seen anyone with NX experiencing nitrous related backfires...

Thanks for the informative reply. I guess a purge is one less thing to buy.

Last night was my first time to spray at the track. I do not have a purge. My first run was a 12.2 at 117, on the next run the lines were "purged" from the first run, and I did a 12.3 at 114. The time lost was because the tires broke loose bad when the N2O hit because of the harder hit from the line being purged. I hooked great off the line but at 3000 rpm's the window switch let the N2O on and I almost went sideways.

I can't argue with results. My car ran signifigcantly faster with a soft hit from a line that was not purged.

I would like a purge though, to empty the line after a run.

These guys are all correct. You need a purge and dont need a purge.....okay that sounded stupid.

If your on the street, running drag radials or street tires, your best bet is to avoid purging the system. The nitrous will hit hard enough to induce tire spin......bad.

At the track with anything from a drag radial to a set of slicks the purge will insure that hard hit you were trying to avoid on a city street. So purge away, and hang on. The "oh cool he's got nawz" statements get a bit boring everytime you purge. But it's kinda cool to see that vapor stream shoot up. I have lined up against a few "victims" that I suckered into racing. They usually had that oh crap look on thier faces when I purged after the burnout.....they knew they had been had. Priceless.
