Re: powdercoating bottle

I dont see why it wouldn't be. Powder coating will resist rust if it is bare metal and also it might resist tempature change like a painted bottle will. I would much rather have a powder coated bottle other then a spray painted one.

I'm not a metallurgist, so I'm not qualified to ANSWER this question, but I am qualified to ask it:

What will the oven temperatures of the curing process do to the tank material?

BTW, if you have never used "Equipment Enamel" spray paint, you would be amazed at how durable it is. Cheaper that powder coating too.

Re: powdercoating bottle

it was the baking that I was worried about. As far as the price goes the guy only wants $40 so it doesnt seem worth it to paint it myself

I don't know much about the powder coating process, but if it is standard oven temps of less then say 600* then you should be fine if you get steel up over 1000* then you will be changing things...

I wouldn't chance it. I'd just paint it myself.

Re: powdercoating bottle

According to the bottle manafactures it is not safe to powder coat the bottles. Over heating the bottle will weaken the bottle. I would suggest painting it over powdercoating it.

Re: powdercoating bottle

Yes the new bottles come that way with the manafacture doing it to there specifics. According to these bottle manafactures its not a good idea to have them powder coated. Take it for what its worth..

Re: powdercoating bottle

I think it would be OK b/c I do powdercoating and the oven temps only get up to 400 degrees for most parts. JMO Later

Re: powdercoating bottle

OK, I talked to my friend who owns Bottlefed Racing and has been dealing with nitrous since 1991, you can powdercoat a bottle with no problems. For those of you who think it's unsafe to powdercoat a nitrous bottle, you have to recertify a nitrous tank every few years. So if you would like to get the bottle to look new or have a custom color, you can powdercoat the bottle, have it sent out, and re-certified. If the bottle is unsafe after powdercoating, they will not send it back to you. If the bottle is powdercoated a custom color, and it gets certified, it's SAFE!!!

Re: powdercoating bottle

Oh yeah, recertifying is only about $30-$40.
